I don't know the definite answer.... there must be some deep reason which some Guru can enlighten (below is my opinion)?? >From history we can note that China has ALWAYS been an "Advancing, Inventive and Ingenious nation".... one of the oldest and most enterprising people.... may be MATERIALLY. I don't know about 'spiritual'. One can also equally argue that probaly 90% of the world population are MEAT EATERS and probably 50% of them are living and "Enjoying" their material lives in AFFLUENT nations, without care for water, food, and shelter. How is it so? Beacuse of past good Karmas i guess? We don't know, but we can assume these "meat/snake" eaters are reborn into life of misery later on. In my THEORY which I formulated whilst at school, i believe we Hindu's are the "Fortunate Sinners of past births" being born into penury and "3rd world-country", but with ADVANTAGE of having SPIRITUAL knowledge to uplift our souls. Those destitue Hindus were probably in previous births the meat&snake eaters etc..,.. now paying the price and also being able to get absolution through prayers,poojas, pilgrimages etc.. The Fortunate and prosperous Hindus (at least 200 Million!) have come many steps ahead in the cycle of birth and God has blessed them (or rather their own Karmas have rewarded them) both Right Knowledge and Prosperity, to facilitate their onward path. The "Unfortunate Sinners" are those born in places like Africa and other poor nations who have to suffer still... until God decides.! Peoples such as the Americans, Japanese, Europeans (the so- called "fortunate and materially happy" people) are now ejoying (on material plane) so many past good karmas and fulfilling their Vasnas of living materially happy life.... and then again most of them must fall down and pay for their misdemeanors. We cannot know everybody's Sanchit karma (what credit-debit balance sheet they have brought over in this life), and why some suffer and some enjoy, though apparently the sufferers are pious, and the enjoyers are not - AND ON THE SURFACE IT MAY APPEAR A PARADOX but really it is not so. We can only be guided by our Vedas/Scriptures and Gurus. JYOTISH is the eye of Vedas and we learn a lot about the meaning of life from it. I have found Jyotish to be very revealing, and if I find that to be TRUE and ACCURATE...I must accept the rest of the Vedas and teaching. Guest guest Posted August 18, 2003 Report Share Posted August 18, 2003 Dear Rajan, Superb post - I am thankful I was born to a pious woman, even though my dad is a voracious meat-eater - so I had the KNOWLEDGE and GUIDANCE to switch from non-veg to veg at an early-ish age. Others are not yet so fortunate, and while eating snakes in China now may later be reborn in poverty in India where they may starve!
