Dear Sandy,

I marked your mail for reply, but forgot to reply.

ACS atlas gives Santa Clara, CA near 121W16. All the packages you mentioned

probably follow the same atlas.

The data used in JHora is taken from US Geological Survey's website.

JHora's main problem is that it does not have the history of timezone changes.

It only has the current timezone information and the current daylight savings

time conventions of USA. So JHora has problems related to daylight savings time

calculation in USA for old dates. It has problems in daylight savings time

calculations even for current dates in some countries outside USA. I am working

on all the daylight savings time related problems and will be releasing a better

JHora in October.

However, I don't think JHora has any problems related to longitudes and

latitudes. Those should be fine.

For example, please go to US Gazatteer's official government website at

http://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/gazetteer

and search for "Santa Clara, CA". You will get

http://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/gazetteer?city=Santa+Clara&state=CA&zip=

You will get the co-ordinates of the main city center as 37.36500 N, 121.96670 W.

Note that the longitude is 121.96670, i.e. 121 deg 58 min West. This is closer

to what JHora gives. In fact, if you go to USGS website and download the data,

you will see that JHora matches the data. The co-ordinates given by JHora are

for the city center, as given by USGS. The longitude given by other softwares

falls within the Santa Clara county, but outside the main city (as per US

Geological Survey and also US Gazetteer).

May Jupiter's light shine on us,

Narasimha
