Dear Karu, Dilipda, JKda and other jyotishis,

Visti Larsen and Sarajit Poddar, two of our very respected gurus, have been

working on the curriculum and modalities of a correspondence course, for quite

sometime now. When it is completed, we will get to hear about it, so do have

some patience while they are working it out. Direct classes cannot be tied up

with conferences, as a totally different mindset is required. The whole day

shall be dedicated to the learning of the shastra, whether Jaimini or BPHS. A

chapter or part of it will be taught in the morning, followed by individual

study sessions by the students, and then the group will meet again to discuss

the topic. This is not the exact structure that we have in mind, but something

similar, depending on how Sanjayji and the other gurus work it out. A week to a

fortnight can be dedicated to it. The idea is to have a gurukul atmosphere, away

from daily chores of profession and domesticity, preferably away from the city

or town, in a secluded place, with nothing to divert our minds. This would be

almost like a retreat. By no means, can this be clubbed with a conference. We

have not decided on a place, but something serene and peaceful like the Gurukul

Retreat in Kerala mentioned by Sanjayji. We are working on options and

possibilities, keeping prices, climate etc. in mind, and in due course of time,

we will announce it. We are ensuring that accommodation and food expenses are

reasonable on a priority basis. We will ensure a nominal registration fee for

SJC to cover its organizational expenses, and perhaps a nominal guru dakshina

as well? Or we may keep guru dakshina as dakshina, for those who may wish to

contribute to it according to their inclinations and capabilities. Please also

realise though we will try our best to keep Indian school holidays in mind as

well as international vacation periods like Christmas, it may not be possible

to satisfy everyone's needs or fit into everyone's schedules. Some people will

get left out, do keep that in mind. Many of you have spoken about taping the

conferences and making them available for those of you who are outside India

and may not be able to attend. This is a very good idea, and we should think

about making MP3 CDs for easy and cheap dissemination among SJC members. Please

keep giving us your ideas.

Best regards,

Sarbani

OM NAMO GURUBRIHASPATHAYE

Dear Visti ans Sarajit,

I think Gurudeva asked about something else. Are you trying to organize any

"Distant learning" method for students who like to learn from Gurukula ?

Me too happy to help you on this, if you need.

Thanks

Karu

|Vyam Vyasadevaaya Namah|Dear Guruji, Namaste.

Sarajit has given his thoughts - It is i who have kept quiet.

This opportunity is what i've been waiting for in a looong time. Direct teaching

in this form is an excellent idea - offcourse how can it not be?

there are only 8 adhyayas in the Jaimini Sutram, however there are said to be

108 in Parasara's Hora Shastra - yet some small and some big, hence possibly

can be covered in 12 parts at maximum... Its a big feat to begin on.

Only 2 things need to be planned carefully;

1. Planning of how much shall be tought and when. Also will it all be taught in

one go, or will it be a repeated the next year?

2. When does this happen.

Other than that, i'm looking forward to breathing some fresh air and eat some

Jyotish for breakfast. :D
