2 Ishta Devata related questions

I have been told that serving (not sure of the right verb here) the

person indicated by one's Ishta Devata according the charakaraka

scheme hastens one's spiritual progress.

 

1) Is it possible for Ishta to be Ketu only? Which person does this

correspond to since Ketu doesn't show up in the 8 charakaraka scheme.

2) If Ishta Devata is the GnatiKaraka in the chart, what does it

mean? Worshipping or serving one's rivals - doesn't make sense,

because then they wouldnt be rivals any more..
