Dear Vikram,

 

As the mail you forwarded says, some believe that chanting Lord's names during

an eclipse is very beneficial. Eclipse times are not good for following

tradition and performing rituals, but they are good for yoga, sadhana,

meditation and naama japam (reciting names).

 

My father taught me that meditating on Ugra devatas (angry/fiery deities) such

as Narasimha and Durga is a particularly good thing to do during eclipses, as

they can keep the nodes under control. It is also said that any sankalpam

(resolution/wish) you make after meditation during an eclipse will fructify.

 

On the night of 15th April 1995, for example, I prayed to various deities

(including Narasimha, Vishnu, Lakshmi, Shiva, Durga and the nine planets)

during a lunar eclipse in Seoul (where I was living then) and wrote down my

wish on a paper. The wish I wrote down was to get a child within a year with

Virgo lagna, Jupiter in Sg in 4th house with Hamsa yoga, Sun, Moon and Mars in

6th house with Trilochana yoga and exalted Venus, Saturn and Ketu in the 7th

house (with Tapaswi yoga, Lakshmi yoga and Malavya yoga). Whether you believe

it or not, my daughter was born ten months later with exactly the same

horoscope (including lagna and Moon).

 

It is my belief that meditation done during an eclipse yields results easier.

But don't abuse it. Make only good wishes that do good to the world. Else, it

becomes bad karma.

Pranam PVRji,

I got this email in my company's mailing list. As you

suggested on VA list that we should avoid Sri Satyanarayan vratam during

eclipse time.Following this advice we have decided to do the vratam the next

day of Poornima But reading this email I just want to ask you that Is it right

to chant any matra during eclipse time(during those 2-3 hrs).What should we do?

I would appreciate if you can guide us in this regards.
