Dear List,

I have gone through previous posts on Arudha. If someone can illuminate

me on the following, I will be greatful.

Eg: from Previous posts: Vehicles

Intelligence

An

Things through which people form perception on the n th house

A4 in D16 shows the object- Vehicle based on which people form perception

A5 indicates what ????

"n" th from AL

Perceived relationship with the n th house

4th from AL: Perceived happiness for possession of vehicle

If 5th from AL is to be seen for fame and winnings from competitions

"n" th from Lagna

True indications

Real happiness for possessing the vehicle

True intelligence of the subject

Kindly clarify this doubt of mine, as this persists when I look at D

charts, especially the houses indicating things in the abstract , like

spirituality for eg.

Namaste Sriram Naik,

You may want to buy a copy of my book "Vedic Astrology: An Integrated Approach"

if you don't have it. At January's "Achyuta Jyotish Workshop" also, we

discussed these things. The mp3 CD of the 12+ hours of classes can be bought at

http://www.VedicAstrologer.org/workshop.

The 5th house from lagna, as you pointed out, shows the abilities, intelligence,

scholarship etc (i.e. abilities of one's true self). The 5th house from AL shows

the perceived abilities (i.e. abilities of one's image or one's perceived self).

It may be noted that both the things mentioned above are intangible. They don't

"rise" materially. They are not tangible. The true abilities are hidden inside

one. The perceived abilities are hidden inside people's minds. Neither of them

is tangible materially.

When it comes A5, it directly shows what "rises" materially. Arudha means the

risen one. Arudha of the nth house shows tangible things that rise from the

matters of the nth house and manifest in the material world. What rises out of

one's abilities and scholarship?

What rises from abilities and manifests materially are awards, trophies,

certificates and other indicators of formal recognition.

If A5 is strong, one will win awards and recognition. Still, if the 5th from AL

is weak, people may think that one did not deserve it. But the real abilities

are seen from the 5th from lagna.

When it comes to spirituality, the 5th house in D-20 shows devotion. The 5th

from AL shows the devotion of one's image (i.e. perceived devotion). However,

neither of these things are tangible in the material plane. The only tangible

thing in the material plane is the mantras one recites, the poojas one

performs, the rituals one undertakes etc. These things rise from one's devotion

and manifest materially. Thus A5 is also called mantrapada and shows the mantras

one recites and the rituals one performs.

Always, when looking at arudha padas, think of the tangible things that rise and

manifest materially. For example, the 3rd house shows boldness. What rises out

of one's boldness and manifests materially? The weapons one acquires and wears,

of course. Also, the 3rd house shows communication skills. What rises out one's

communication skills and manifests materially? The books, articles and mails

written by one of course! While the communication skills themselves are

intangible, one's writings are tangible - they manifest materially!

If you understand the basic meaning of arudha, deriving the detailed meanings of

various arudhas becomes a cakewalk!

May Jupiter's light shine on us,

Narasimha
