the easiest way of calculating the Nakshtra is this:

Covert the Moon's Longitude to MINUTES. Divide this by 800 (each nakshatra

occupies 800 minutes). Add 1 to the Inter of the Result.. This gives the No of

the Nakshatra. Aswini is 1, Bharani 2 .. Revaati is 27.

for Pada , check the fractionlal part. If a decimal division is done. If

fraction is .25 or less then Pada is one. If fraction beteween .25 and .50

Pada is 2nd. Between .5 and .75 then pada is 3, if more than .75 then pada is

4th.

Example Moon's Longitude is say 20 deg,34m,12sec in Simha.

convert to minutes= (5-1)x30x60+ 20x60 +34 + 12/60= 8434.20 minutes

8434.2/800=10.54275 : the Nakshtra No is 10+1 =11. The Nakshatra is poorva-

falguni. Since fraction is more than 0.5 and less than 0 .75 the Pada is 3

Dear Guru's and Members,Namaste,Please correct me if I am doing any thing wrong

in the following Calculation to find the Nakshatra and Pada from the Lagna:I

have a Value of Lagna = 4 Ge 43' 29.33"Convert into Min (') = 4 = 4 * 60 =

240 ' Total Min (') = 240 + 43 = 283 'Convert into Seconds (") = 283 *

60 = 16980 " Total Sec (") = 16980 + 29.33 = 17009.33 "Now If I

multiply by a constant 81 Total Sec (") = 17009.33 * 81 =

1377755.73Convert the above value into Min: (1377755.73) / 60 ) =

22962.5955Convert the above value into Deg: (22962.5955) / 60 ) =

382.709925Expunge 360 from the above : 382.709925 - 360 = 22.709925This

value is : Bharani Nakshatra Pada 2.If any one has a better method or any other

suggesion please do educate me.RegardsRaoArchives:
