Om Krishna Guru!

Respected Guruji's,

Recently in the Starteller issue ( in Letters section) someone wrote

that Sri Yukteswar has said that Yugas are not of the order of lacs

but mere thousand. According to the article Kaliyuga is not 4,32,000

years and same discrepancy has creeped in. Pundit Sanjay Rath had

clarified this many moons ago that the yugas are 4800,3600,2400,1200

Daiva years and not human years. It will work out to be 4,32,000

human years for Kaliyuga.

Why I am so disappointed is people writing these articles are holding

Phd and not going in to depth of writings and getting a superficial

view. What Yukteswar meant was the cycle of ages repeats many times

within each yuga like mini yugas within one major yuga. I just wanted

to share this with my astrological brethren.

Also finally one question to guruji's -

There is a mantra given for success in Kaliyuga from Bhavishya Purana

in one of the previous Starteller magazine which Lord Vishnu in Kalki

avatara would recite to get weapons from Lord Shiva. Can we recite

this???

Thanks!

Murali

Correct. I also compiled an article on this in the August issue of JD last

year I think. Sanjayji asked me to collect evidence for the duration of

yugas from Bhagavatam and Manu Samhita, and both would support Daiva Varsha

and not Soura. The model of sub-yugas and sub-sub yugas is interesting,

however I would be a little bit cautious with it because I have never seen

any direct shastric evidence supporting this. It is not proven fro me that

these divisions were commonly applied by the Maharishis. For me, yuga

distribution looks like a unique measurement of ages on that level, as

Mahayugas (a cycle of four yugas) are not assembled into higher cycles of

yugas, say for example 1 maha yuga would be the length of a Supra Kali yuga,

two of a Supra Dwapara etc. The next level after Mahayugas is Manvantaras,

and then a day of Brahma. So it seems to be unque, therefore it's not veyr

logical to me to expect sub-yugas within a Kali-yuga. Still there may be

some gap here because there's no known gradations between yugas and years.

You could try to apply Saturnian cycles or Jovian years, but I haven't seen

any literature pinpointing the conditions for a starting point of a yuga.

Also it is said, that there's some crossfade time, called yuga-sandhya,

while the qualities of the next yuga begin manifest. So I think more

research is required in the question of smaller and bigger time cycles. Down

from the year, everything fits very nicely with the astronomical phenomena.

According to Lord Caitanya, Who quoted Kali/santarana Upanishad and

Brhannaradiya Purana, the Yuga Mantra for this age is the Hare Krishna Maha

Mantra. Also Lord Caitanya is taken as the Yuga Avatar by the authorities,

since He is the one Who brings the Yuga Mantra and distributes it. If the

Yuga Dharma were introduced by Kalki, then it wouldn't fulfill its' purpose

because He will appear right at the end of the Kali yuga.
