Thanks for this- I think that it's important to make distinction between

memories and raw memory faculty, as Jay did- because they are similar in sound

only-

and if one tries to envoke 'memories' instead of memorazing, grasping concepts

and essence of Jyotish, that woudn't be a good job- allowing, as we see so

often in astrology, that we /randomly?/ chose handy concepts to 'prove' our

hypotesis, relying on 'intution', or what not. Sabri, I'd share my opinion on

this- don't bother to remember all yogas- memorize basics, clues, which will

allow you to recognize qualities within the bigger pattern, you can find yogas

easily- just make your own reference book as you study, it will play the role

of your 'extrended' memory and will be nicely stored "somewhere" always

available to you when you need it- before it becomes /to a bigger extent/ your

'property', before it becomes 'internalized'- nothing new, applies to the

process of acquiring knowledge in general- if one is serious about that.

I'd say, rely on mercury first /and Saturn, my favourite /maraka/planet/, and

disciline your 'Jupiter'- intuition and 'higher-order' faculties will come

later- Only 'informed intuition' is reliable- so study honestly first. That's

my proven path- you may find you own.

Good Luck, Sabri

--------------

Besides, Jay, even those with good memory capacity, have to know priorities,

order of importance as I say, of ino in order for them to study in an organized

way-

That's me perhaps, I don't believe in 'pick-and-chose' 'intuitive'

un/dis/organized etc approcah to any study, Jyotish neither. So, when you

experienced Jyotishi analyze the chart, it would be very useful for students if

you would 'clasify' that order in analysis, paying bit more attention to

explaining the method- most would benefit themselves from the very attempt to

do so.

Thanks,

Anna

Dear Visti,

It was not my intension to delve into the subject of "memory" as such as I'll

probably need an entire new life-time for that alone!

However memories are eternal - not the memory function and storage.

Two entirely different issue.

The storage device is the brain, which is temporal for this life and the

memories are eternal and accumulating.

A good example (one of many) is a computer memory chip (the device) which has

nothing to do with the temporal content stored on it (the memories).

Kind regards

Re: [vedic astrology] About learning/getting better in Jyotish

Hare Rama Krsna

Dear Jay,

The Memory is eternal and everlasting.

However its the level of awareness which determines whether the link between

consciousness and memory, is good or not. From this point of view we determine

whether the native has a strong memory or not.

When the memory becomes thoroughly advanced, we start to remember more than what

has happened in the current birth.. infact it is the awareness which enables

this to happen-

Jyotishis have the greatest memory because they spend so much time with Jupiter. :)

Re: [vedic astrology] About learning/getting better in Jyotish

Dear Sabri,Indeed, Jyotish is an ocean of rules, parameters, combinations and

most ofall many controversies. From any known view point (physical or

mental/psychological) there is no wayone can measure a humans memory capacity.

We can not attribute a number ofGigabytes to one person and only a few

megabytes to another...Some people can "store" and retrieve huge amounts of

data while others canhardly recall yesterdays events.Certain functions in the

brain sort and store data which "it" findsimportant and or reusableNow, as with

everything one can train and improve a "weak" memory up to acertain degree and

if this fails (as it does now and than) one can be helpedby certain devices

like storing data on a hand held computer (like the Palm)and have it "stand-by"

in your pocket. However, saying that does not mean that you can store EVERYTHING

on anelectronic device. You must learn and memories the basic rules and

attributes of Jyotishissues. All important basics included!Once you've done

that I believe that a device like the Palm can be ablessing (that goes actually

for everyone).Besides "charting on the move" one can have most of the classics

on that"poor" Palm as a reference (reducing ~6-7 Kg' of books into 185 grams in

thepocket...).Further, one can store important notes until they are

memorized.Sure a great help to any astrologer who like to be on the 'safe side'

ofhis/her memory cells.I hope this gives you an idea...Kind regardsJay WeissP.S.
