Guest guest
Dear list, I bought this CD and can confidently say it is money well spent and for a good cause. I wanted to write to PVR thanking him for pricing the CD very reasonably. Found time only today. This is just (possibly opinionated) feedback of a jyotish student and please dont mistake it for a proper review. FYI, I am a beginner level jyotish student hoping to progress to intermediate level after testing myself with few charts. Thanks, Narasimhaji, for a reasonably priced, professionally made CD (except for the mp3 file recorded from VCR). I will even go to the extent of saying it is one of the must-have for beginner and intermediate students, if you follow the SJC school of jyotish with empasis on argalas, arudas, divisionals, multiple dasas, etc. Building a good foundation is the most difficult part (finer techniques one can always learn if understanding of fundamentals are strong). I cannot stress this enough, since I started learning jyotish 6 months back through Internet and read articles and some books of different authors, each emphasising a different methodology and theory. Instead of a broad perspective, I ended up getting confused and am still at beginner level, afraid to make predictions. If you are a beginner like me, concentrate more on getting the fundamentals right rather than familiarising with tons of advanced techniques. This workshop CD and PVR's book might help in understanding the fundamentals and how to apply them. Even for advanced students, this might serve as a good ready reckoner and the JHLite 5.0 is much better than JHLite 3.0. The UI is well thought out. To PVR: ------ 1) There are some illegal memory access exceptions that crash/hang the program (JHlite 5.0). I didnt have time to note down as a bug list. In future versions, if you can add a feature to automatically report/email bugs by clicking a button it might be helpful. 2) Do make more tutorials/workshops oriented towards beginners. I even suggest this Achuta workshop assumes some basic knowledge and I think for newcomers it will be helpful if this workshop is preceded by a tutorial with basics of rasis, houses, planets, yogas and drishtis. This workshop material, as it is, might prove a bit of information overflow for beginners who are very new to jyotish. IMHO, it is the beginners that need the highest possible guidance. Advanced students can/should pick things up on their own. Thanks, Siva.
