Rudraksha is a tree of medium height and its leaves are 3 to 6 inches long.White flowers are found in this tree.Its fruit known as Rudraksha is 3/4 to 1 inch in diameter and inside it is found Rudraksha. Testing for original Rudraksha : 1) When Rudraksha is put in aglass of water ,it will dip and not float.In case it is made of wood or is infected with insects it will float in water. 2) in case a rippened Rudraksha is closed in fist and when taken near the ear and moved will emit a pleasant sound. 3) If a Rudraksha is placed in between two copper coins ,it will move when pressed. 4) The Rudraksha is round raised at places,hard and rough surface.Each face has naturally carved lines and are called Faces of Rudraksha. 5) In a natural Rudraksha ,we will find a shine and a greasiness which appears after its continuous use by wearing and as Rosary. 6) A few Rudraksha have eyes like that of coconut and are near carved lines.Three eyed Rudraksha is attributed to Lord Shiva which helps in early attainment of Siddhi. 7) A Rudraksha has always rough surface and not thorny.Thorny surfaced Rudraksha is duplicate. 8) Rudraksha od smaller size is always held in high esteem than bigger size.Smaller size is more effective. 9) The natural Rudraksha has no hole in it and these are made later on.If you buy a sigle piece which has a hole in it is not auspicious to wear. 10) In natural Rudraksha ,the lines are not equidstant but in artificial one ,these are found carved at equidistant. Rudrakshas are 1Mukhi-21 Mukhi(though there are claims upto 37 Mukhis----but I haven't heard anywhere but 1 place only) 1Mukhi Rudraksha---the Indian version round are available (though not very common but u can find them ).So there are chances of fake in this one.Cashew shaped 1Mukhis are commonly available.No reason to fake them. 2-12 Mukhis are common(though 11,12 can be tricky) 13-21 are rare .So u need to be veeeeeeeeeery careful in buying them.
