Guest guest
1) I specifically stated "assuming everything is independent". I realized that that was an assumption at the outset. In any case, the real astronomical question (not mathematical question) that needs to be answered is: If a planet is AK, then what is the probability that Ketu will be in the 4th or 12th from it. Now, it is quite irrelevant whether the AK planet is slow moving or fast moving. The real question is, GIVEN that a planet is AK, does Ketu have a PREFERENCE in being in one house over another, or are all houses the same, probabilistically speaking of course. I hope you get my drift. Of course, these days, Saturn is in the 29th degree of Ta, and when it gets an opportunity to assume AK role (which it frequently will, IN THIS TIME PERIOD SINCE IT IS VIRTUALLY STATIONARY), Ketu will always end up being in the 7th from it (because it is in Sc). But does this hold for a 3000 year period too? i.e. every time in the past 3000 years, whenever Saturn has been AK, has Ketu tended always to be in the 7th from it? Probably not. So the slow moving versus fast moving is not an issue. Slow moving planets get longer but fewer opportunities to be AK. Fast moving planets get shorter but more opportunities to AK (Moon for example, gets an opportunity every month). In a long period (3000 years or so), their total opportunities probably level out. Similarly, the position of Ketu in relation to them also probably levels out from a house placement point of view. But I cant be sure - only a very astute astronomer can make a good judgement. 2) Next, regarding your question about why I dont believe a large section of the population is heading towards Moksha, it seems to me that the answer is (a) in the understanding of what it may possibly be and (b) in the experience that I and people around me certainly dont have it. I have read several accounts of "Moksha" type state. You probably have, too. Look at Buddha's descriptions (no specific descriptions of Moksha of course, but of a path to it). For one of the most analytically perfect descriptions of "living Moksha", look at the Jiddu Krishnamurti's observations - although he hasnt specifically said that he had attained Moksha, by reading his accounts and observations of his own mind, I cant figure out what else it can be - can you? Look at some of Swami Vivekananda's writings. The Bhagavad Gita (Srila Prabhupada's interpretation is what I have read) gives a pretty good clue, as far as I am concerned. Srila Prabhupada's action at yet another example. There is a very clear commonality running through all these writings/experiences. A complete detachment from all forms of materialism, coupled with complete compassion for everything, and a complete absence of ego. In my meetings indirectly or directly with millions of average people (through school and work and internet communications in a fair cross section of societies), I must say I have met very very very few people who come even close. So, I dont believe that 16%, or even 0.001% for that matter. The world has at least 4 billion people today. 16% would be a solid 640 million. 0.001% would be still be a good 40,000 people, still not a small number.
