All Indian methods of measurement of time were based on one unit, called a

prana or breath. 360 of these pranas make up 24 minutes, and this is called a

nadika. Within one day and night, there are 21600 pranas, 1440 nadikas, or 24

hours, half of which belong to the Sun and half of which to the Moon.

Breath is time, and this circle is connected with the zodiac and with the

letters (matrikas) of the alphabet. To become free from time is an inner goal

of the kalachakra - Teachings of the Adinaths (anonymous)

Matrikas ("Little Mothers"), also meaning alphabets of Sanskrit: the global

goddess figurine in clay, ivory, wood and stone, from 30,000 BCE to the 21st

century. Kemet, India, Canaan, Ecuador, Iraq, Mexico, Kazakhstan, Ohio, Japan,

Utah, Siberia, Ukraine, Anatolia, Chad, Argentina, Sulawesi, Kenya, Alaska,

Colombia, Congo, and Tonga.

Mantras are syllables, single or strung together, many of them without obvious

meaning. They end in a nasal humming sound. They are meant to be the seed

forms of particular energies known to the Tantrik, but not identified with any

worldly objects, though they may be identified with functional deities. They

are used continuesly throughout Tantrik rituals, whispered or chanted in

different combinations and contexts, setting up patterns of vibrations that

condense the energies they represent into that place and time. one must learn

both to speak them properly, and to activate their hidden meanings. They may

be written in Sanskrit or any other language on ritual objects, or in the

spaces of YANTRA diagrams, or painted to the yantras themselves; they may be

stamped on ones body or visualized in the air. They are also the subtle forms

of these fields of energy whose interference patterns produce the human

consciousness of things in this world.

Each Mantra creates definite vibrations through its recitation. For creating

the right vibrations the Mantras must be recited with correct pronounciation,

complete faith and right directions.

Sometimes it is seen that a deity appears in dream or in any form and bless

the sadhaka with certain Mantras. Such Mantras are very powerful and need no

correction, as the recitation of such Mantras will bring the desired results.

Persons who do not believe in Mantra Shastra should not try this until they

get complete faith and guidance. Such practice should not be started without

proper guidance.

(sadhaka means the person who recites the Mantra.)

Due to meditation and and recitation of Mantras, the clue and solution of the

problem will automatically come to the mind sooner or later and relieve the

mental strain and difficulties. Thus help solving all the problems.

Dear Ashwin,

It is good that you had explained about our breaths. But you mentioned mantras

are syllables of single or multiple ,many of them without meaning. You said many

of them without obvious meanings and they end in a nasal hamming sound. But as I

read each Beeja or Seed has got certain definite meaning, through which energies

are entered our body. Now for example the most used Beeja Mantra is HREEM.This

can be divided as HA+RA+EE+Nada or sound + Bindu. Here the meanings are HA =

Lord Shiva,RA = Prakruti or Godess Parvati,EE = Maha Maya ,Nada or sound =

Vishwa Mata, and Bindu = Removal of sorrows and so the meaning of this beeja or

seed is O Godess Parvati,Shiva's consort who is Maha Maya and Godess of the

Universe,remove my sorrows.

So like this many of the Beeja or seed mantras have a definite meaning within

themselves. So the founder of these Beeja mantras who are great maharshis are

really to be worshipped.

I hope this helps,

With best regards,

Ramadas Rao.
