Before i make an attempt to answer your question,i would like to point out that

on account of the natural proximity between Sun and mercury,there are many

people who have a combust mercury.It is not as if all of them have lead obscure

lives.So opinion amongst the astrologers is divided on the issue,as to whether

combustion of mercury is to be treated as an affliction or not.Some astrologers

point out that a conjuction of Sun and mercury causes the Budh--Aditya yoga and

therefore combustion of mercury cannot be an affliction at all.Some leading

astrologers go one step further and ask that since conjuction of a planet say

like the Jupiter with Sun is very good,how can conbustion of any planet be

considered to be an affliction at all.All food for thought.I had meditated a

lot on this issue when i started learning astrology.The only logical conclusion

i came to was as under.It is not as if the native does not receive the rays of a

combust planet.Only thing is that the rays are not visible.Therefore the native

will have properties bestowed by the combust planet and as a consequence its

characteristics,but such characteristics may not be apparent in him.I would
