Guest guest
Dear Chandrashekhar, Are you suggesting that Om is not to be counted as an akshara (syllable/letter) in "Om Namassivaaya", but should be counted as one in "Om NamoNaaraayanaaya")? If so, you are actually creating a new controversy now. To the best of my knowledge, there is no such controversy. For example, Pt. Sanjay Rath gives "Om Namah Sivaaya" as the shadakshara (6-lettered) Sada Shiva mantra and "Namah Sivaaya" as the panchakshari mantra in his book VRA. Whatever "Om" means and whatever its purpose is, it DOES count as an akshara when you include it in a mantra and alters the behavior accordingly. Namassivaaya is a great mantra and so is Om Namah Sivaaya. May Jupiter's light shine on us, Narasimha > Dear Sadashivji, > I think you are making a mistake please check up again. Ramadasji has explained the correct position.Omkar denotes various things including source of origin of our universe. Therefore Om releases the energy of the Mantra which is panchakshari. I wanted to highlight the fact that counting syllables and words without understanding the import of the Mantra could give wrong numerical values, as was being done in the discussion. I am but a student but could not help point out the anamoly. > Chandrashekhar.
