Pranama,

The in-depth study of Divisional charts is a unique feature of Vedic astrology.

Although other astrological school of thought like Greeks, Tajika, Arabs and

Modern westerners all accept unavoidable place of harmonics but it is the only

Hindu astrology that lay a comprehensive usage. Amongst well known shodas varga

(16 harmonics), only Navamsha claims superiority and importance which other can

not.

Lots of beneficial discussion has been done on this forum over different

Divisional charts as its one of the favourite subject of Narasimharao Jee,

beside Arudha, Special lagnas and Dashas.

1) Parashara said the strenght/weakness of Grahas are directly proportional to

the their Navamsha. That is a planet in Navamsa lorded by friends and/or

benefic planets yields auspiciousness. Grahas having Navamsha as thier

exaltation signs produce Yogas. But an exalted planet in Rasi, if comes under

its debilitation sign in Navamsa results in inauspiciousness.

2) On SJVC web link (under lessons) a good technique of Navamsha usage

(extracted from Nadi literature)is given, which correlate Rashi and Navamsha

position, called 'Rashi Tulya Namamsa' technique. Every planet comes under

certain sign in Navamsa Chart, if this sign happens Kendra or Kona of Natal

Chart then planet is assumed strong if this sign (in navamsa) in which planet

is placed happens dushtan bhava of Natal chart it will give bad effects

regarding this house.

3) Similarly planets occured same sign in Rasi and Navamsha are supposed

strong, but what happens when this house is lorded by its enemy or its

debilitation sign. e.g. Vargottama Sun in Aquarious or Vargottama Venus in

Virgo.

4) Another way of jugging the strength, Look the sign in Navamsha chart in

which any planet is placed, if this sign happens dushtana from its occurrence

in Rasi, then this causes weakness. e.g. In Rashi Saturn is into Libra lagna

and comes Taurus Navamsha which happens 8th house from its (Saturn's) Rasi

placement then its a weak feature of chart and native can't enjoy Sasa Yoga.

Similarly if Venus is into Gemini for Aquarius lagna and Scorpio Navamsha is

bad as Scorpio happens 6th from Gemini the place where Venus is resided.

5) In a Book I've read that lagna/planet if placed in first Navamsha (i.e.

between 0 to 3-20 degree of a sign) then native is Fickle-minded, sexy and

harmful to his kith and kin. If in second Navamsa ( 3-20 to 6-40 ) he likes low

society and fare to quarrel. In third-Religious, learned and well-versed in many

arts. In fourth-obedient of his Guru and elders, eloquent and spell bound

speaker. In fifth-Many children, long live, wealthy and respectable. In

sixth-poor, talktive and impotent. In seventh-intelligent, bold and happy. In

eighth-under heavy debt, poor and secretive. And in ninth Navamsha (between

26-40 to 30-00), the native is Active, successful and leader of his

family/society.

I want to know that among these techniques which one should given preference

over other, as many times these rules cancel each other. e.g. a planet may be

in benefic Navamsha but it may be its debilitation sign, or this sign may comes

as dushtan bhav of Rasi. So at this stage which way should adopt specially for

students like me. Moreover other techniques may exist under practiced by

learned astrologers, and they ought share this knowledge, so that a deeper

comprehension of Vedic astrology can prevail.

Hope learned list members throw light on Rashi-Navamsha relation and its results.

Dear M.Imran,

The steps 1-4 are very similar to each other. Add the concept of Navamsa

dispositors, and you will begin to understand the links.

The 5th point, needs more explaining and detailing. Preferably we study Jaimini

and Kalyan Vermas views on the same. Saravali has a ver detailed description of

birth in various rasi/amsas.
