Guest guest
Respected Gurus, In the same line of discussion about changing the names let me take anopportunity to clear my doubt by asking this question. This may be very basic question for you all but since it is my first experience of fatherhood I would appreciate if somebody can take some time and clarify.... While surfing on the internet I came across some sites which explain the procedure of namakaran Don't know the authenticity of the thier source but these site suggest that the new born should be given 2 names 1) Nakshatra Name 2 ) Popular Name... http://www.indiancultureonline.com/Mystica/html/namkaran.htm. http://www.hindu.samskaras.i12.com/birth_rashi_alpha1.htm For Nakshatra name like somebody is born in Sarvana then the first letter of the name should start with either kh,kha, khe ....... Since this limits the choice in selecting the name, a popular name is given to the child based on the society, culture and the place of living. The popular name is the one by which he/she is known to the outside world ..... My doubt is ......Is this the right procedure that we can give one nakshatra name and one popular name. In the countries like US, parents have to name the childwithin a day or two after the birth ...that makes it real tough to find an appropriate name based on the letter suggested by the nakshatra within a day...there are some letters which donot have contemporary good names and the parents will definitely not like to name their child on a too old or difficult to pronounce names..so can we give a rather easy popular name which can be based on a diety of our belief or any other name which we like .....At the same time the child will be given a Nakshatra/Rasi name. I would really appreciate if somebody can throw some light on this.... Thanks Vikram Y! Guest guest
The Namakaran, in India, is on the 12th/16th day of the birth. The old practice of giving a name based on the Star and Pada at time of Birth, is based as a easy way to know your Moon Rasi from your name, as everyone was not expected to know/remeber his RASI. Traditional astrology was Lunar Based, and this was helpful. Even today, when performing some relegious poojas, this name based on the Birth Star is used. The practical name is used for all other purposes. So for Americans, the practical name is important as it has to be fixed as soon as birth takes place. The Star based name can be fixed lateron and recorded. Best a reliable horoscope should be prepared, where in the Moon's satr and pada are indicated. --- Vikram Singhvi <vikram_singhvi wrote: > > Om Gurave Namah.... > Respected Gurus, > In the same line of discussion about changing the names let > me take an > opportunity to clear my doubt by asking this question.
