Guest guest
Hare Rama Krsna! Dear Ernst, Nice thought on the use of sidereal days. As you have noticed the length of year to be 360 solar days, consider the point that our Western calendar has 365.2425 calendar days. What are the additional days standing for? Indeed, the movement of Sun according to the background of nakshatras. And if you calculate the additional days 5.2425/365.2425 that will give you the annual ayanamsa value, in other words presently about 51 seconds per year. Another point that is on my mind for some time, is whether this ayanamsa goes around the entire zodiac or moves forward and backward around the point of 0°Aries. Consider the point that Sun is exalted in Aries and debilitated in Libra. Sun in Aries starts the spring season when the Sun gets power and it loses its power in Libra, when autumn season starts. If ayanamsa goes linear, then how could the spring equinox at one point fall in Libra, when Sun gets debilitated. Similarly, Sun in the signs of Saturn indicates winter, how at that point would Sun in the signs of Saturn indicate summer time. It doesn't make sense. Thus I would say that at some point, the solar year could be shorter than 360 days, and the ayanamsa go backwards again. In any case, I use 360 days year for dasha periods. What do you think, does that make sense? Your sishya, Dhira Krsna dasa
Guest guest
Dear Members The usual practice of calculating the Dasas is the Year=12 months,Month=12 days. In using this method the adedittion is done dys+date,if Sum > 30 then carry over the excess to Month. Then add month to month, excess over 12 is carried over to year. Then year is added to year. This method sometimes gives the date as 31st June. This is corrected to 1st July. In the other method we take the Dasas in calender Dates. The Dasa of venus is not 20 ys but 20X365.25 days. The total cycle also will be 120X365.25 calender dates. Thee dasa ending, start etc are done on basis of calender days only, and then converted to Year, and the Calender Date. There is hardly a difference of 1 or 2 days in the 2 methods --- Dhira Krsna BCS <Dhira.Krsna.BCS wrote: > Hare Rama Krsna! > > Dear Ernst, > > Nice thought on the use of sidereal days. Actually the 365.2425 days is the time it takes the Sun to move from Vernal equinox to vernal equinox, the time it takes to move through the nakshatras is 365.2564 days, about 11 minutes longer I believe. > And if you calculate the additional days > 5.2425/365.2425 that will give you the annual ayanamsa value, in other > words presently about 51 seconds per year. That is interesting and merits some thought. > Another point that is on my mind for some time, is whether this > ayanamsa goes around the entire zodiac or moves forward and backward > around the point of 0°Aries. According to Svami Sri Yuktesvar the ayanamsa definitely revolves around the entire zodiac. > If ayanamsa goes linear, then how could the spring > equinox at one point fall in Libra, when Sun gets debilitated. > Similarly, Sun in the signs of Saturn indicates winter, how at that > point would Sun in the signs of Saturn indicate summer time. Seasons are stable and dependent upon the soltices and equinoxes, IE the tropical zodiac, which are recognized in Samhitas, but not given preference to in respect to predictions. > Thus I would say that at some point, the solar year could be shorter > than 360 days, and the ayanamsa go backwards again. What you are calling solar days are called Savana Days in the Surya Siddhanta, and which are use primarily for determining the days of the week, Sunday-Saturday, and for determign the mean positions of the planets which are given as motion in number of Savana days. What the Surya Sidhanta calls solar days are the time for the Sun to travel 1 degree, which comes to 365.2425 modern calander days. So while we are certainly supposed to use a 360 day year- as all years in Surya Siddhanta are 360 days, what days are meant? Solar year comes to a 365.2425 year, Lunar year to app. 354 days, Savana year to 360 days, and sideral year to a bit over 359 days.
