And if u happen to pass this way, stay over at my place to rest yr

weary bones b4 taking on the rest of India. And learn the REAL co-ords

of this unique city in India. Be a part of:

 

- the frenetic hectivity, where if 2 vehicles crash, just before they r

going to come to blows (as in the rest of India), they look at their

watches, realise they will get too late for a "deal", exchange visiting

cards, & share a cab to their common destination (all business is in a

small few sq km CBD in South), & prob'ly make a mutual deal on the way.

 

- the fragrant smell of sweaty bodies sardined together in suburban

trains, so close that if u put your hand in your pocket, someone will

shout "pick-pocket, pick-pocket" (u r most likely to have reached into

someone else's pocket).

 

- where u dont smile at home, as the houses r so match-boxy, that if u

do, your cheeks will clash against the walls.

 

- where the day after a major catastrophe (eg riot, etc), people r

counting the no of days of business lost/ office leave lost.

 

- where everyone of various professions (police & thieves), communities

(hindu/muslim/christians/hippies), etc r packed so closely together, &

things r so ingeniously ORGANISED, that if u got your pocket picked in

the train & know anyone in the police, u r SURE to get it back within

24 hrs.

 

AND THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME : my servant ran away at night with Rs 1.5

lakhs of money & jewelry 4 months back, & I only had her name, no

address, but a stray conversation that she lived somewhere in Wagle

Industrial estate (say a 30+ sq km stretch). I reported it to the

police at 10 pm, was with the police thruout the night & watched them

in action at 1st hand. How they found her with the loot at 4 am the

SAME night in front of my eyes. They used a combination of local

info-providers (ie local cable TV operator, local Shiv Sena dada - ie

the local political goon, etc), ie going door to door, shortlisting

smaller areas within Wagle... by community, among the various slums

there, from the name; then knocking relevant doors at the middle of the

night, to go from 1 lead to another with only a name & such a vast

area. All this happened in front of my eyes). Amazing. In 6 hours flat.

With such a dense population, such a huge area, with just a name. And I

paid NO bribes then, just a gift later, AFTERE I was handed over all

the property. Ofcourse the media made a lot of the police, & rightfully

so.

 

So. Come & see for yourself the REAL co-ords of this place, called

Bombay, amchi Mumbai, etc. Where every road, park, public place,

building, is named after Shivaji. A city of maddening joy. Where u can

learn so much of human behaviour so quickly, which is so much a

precursor to learning astrology!

 

PS: I thought, with so much stress around, both in my life, the world

at large, with this (& related) List, etc, at the current juncture. So

much gotterdammerung. Resulting in so much weltschmerz. That I will say

some waltenshauung that will make u smile. Those anglo-German words

were

meant as a lark! After all, when u say things after which u feel u may

only have lit a candle in the sunshine to the audience (msot of u msut

be knowing Bombay very well), its best to distract attention away from

what u have just said. OK, OK. This conversation is going nowhere. No

apologies for a non-astro-mail. Just that I am going thru a very tough

phase on all fronts. And need to distract myself, & to make people

laugh at the same time, if I can!
