It is the 1/5th part of a sign, or say entire zodiac is divided into sixty equal

parts(360*/60 =6*) each of six degrees extent. For odd signs first panchamsa

(0-6) is ruled by Mars(Ari), second panchamsa (6-12) is ruled by Saturn(Aqu),

third panchamsa (12-18) is ruled by Jupiter(Sag), forth panchamsa (18-24) is

ruled by Mercury(Gem) and fifth panchamsa (24-30) is governed by Venus(Lib).

Similarly, for even signs; first panchamsa (0-6) is lorded by Venus(Tau),

second (6-12) by Mercury(Vir), third (12-18) by Jupiter(Pis), forth (18-24) by

Saturn(Cap), and fifth panchamsa (18-24) is ruled by Mars(Sco). D-6 The

Shashtamsa: It is the 1/6th part of a sign, can be obtained by dividing entire

zodiac into 72 equal parts ( 360*/72 = 5* )each of five degrees. For "odd

sings" first shashtamsa (0-5) is ruled by Mars (Ari), second (5-10) by

Venus(Tau), third (10-15) by Mercury (Gem), forth (15-20) by Moon (Can), fifth

(20-25) by Sun (Leo), and sixth shashtamsa (25-30) is lorded by Mercury (Vir).

Similarly for "even signs" the shashtamsas are Venus (Lib), Mars (Sco), Jupiter

(Sag), Saturn (Cap), Sat (Aqu) and Jupiter (Pis) respectively. D-8 The Ashtamsa:

This can be computed by dividing a sign(30 degrees) into 8 equal parts or a

zodiac (360 degrees) into 96 equal parts (360*/96 = 3* 45' ) each of 3 degree

and 45 minutes. The are four categories for counting ashtamsas; Cardinal signs,

Fixed signs and Dual signs. For cardinal signs (Ar, Cn, Li, Cp) eight ashtamsas

are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Viro, Libra and Scorpio respectively.

For Fixed signs (Ta, Le, Sc, Aq) eight astamsas are Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio,

Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. Whereas for dual signs ( Gm, Vi,

Sg, Pi) the eight ashtamsas are Sagittrius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries,

Taurus, Gemini and Cancer respectively. e.g. Moon is in 14 deg 15 min. she will

be in Cancer ashtamsa if she is either in Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn

sign. But in case of fixed sign Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius, she will lie

in Scorpio ashtamsa. D-11 The Ekadasamsa or Rudramsa: When a sign is divided

into 11 qual divisions, or entire zodiac is divided into 132 equal parts, it is

called Ekadasamsa or 1/11th divisions. Since each ekadasamsa is of 2 degrees 43

minutes 38.18 seconds. Therefore the range of first, second,

third,.....eleventh ekadasamsas will be in the following (deg_min_sec)

sequence. ( 2_43_38.18, 5_27_16.36, 8_10_54.55, 10_54_32.73, 13_38_10.91,

16_21_49.09, 19_05_27.27, 21_49_5.45, 24_32_43.64, 27_16_21.82,

30_0_0). The lords of eleven ekadasamsas are the lords of the eleven signs from

12th rashi counted backwards. For example Venus of 17_48 Libra lies in seventh

ekadasamsa ( 16_21_49.09 to 19_05_27.27) i.e. in Aries. Lagna of 14_05 Pisces

falls in sixth ekadasamsa i.e. in Libra. Formulation on Excel: First convert

the extracted degree-minutes-seconds of grah into decimal format, e.g. Jup of

15 deg 16 min 55 sec Cancer = 105.28194. Then write "

=1+INT(MOD(Cell*6,360)/30) " for sashtamsa computation. Type cell number of

zodiacal position (here105.28194) instead of Cell, whatever in your sheet.

Similarly " =1+INT(MOD(Cell*8,360)/30) " for D-8 ashtamsa computation. And use

" =1+INT(MOD(Cell*11,360)/30) " for ekadasamsa/rudramsa of any graha. Regards
