Moon in Scorpio

Dear Quad,One of two important pillars of strength of a planet is sthanabala,

digbala being the other. When in debilitation, a planet lacks sthanabala. This

holds for all planets.

You do have a point with Moon, for who the pakshabala factor comes in strongly.

Most classics would tell you that Moon would be malefic from a stage in the

waning cycle to an opposite stage in the waxing cycle. If such weakness would

combine with a lack of sthanabala and digbala, it wouldn't be too favorable.

Consider a Piscean, with Moon and Sun in Scorpio. Moon would utterly lack

sthanabala, pakshabala and have only a little of digbala (its digbala would be

zero in tenth, and ninth is next door).

There are varied views on Moon's malefic nature. While Parasara and Mihira

relate it wholly to pakshabala, Yavaneswara says that Moon is either a benefic

or a neutral but never malefic.

That said, I personally feel safer going by the functionality of any planet

vis-a-vis the ascendant, Moon included. For example, I can't see how it can be

a malefic for Pisces, Aries, Libra, Cancer or Scorpio ascendants. At worst, it

may be unable to give results due to its weakness but it certainly won't turn

malefic.

Warm regards,

Ramapriya

Dear Ramapriya,

I would like to add my thoughts on the matter. I think Sun and moon

should be treated differently. with respect to other planets, they

can be functiona/natural benefic/malefic. and accordingly their

strength will matter. But sun and moon are the pillars of a chart

representing the purush and the prakruti of the chart respectively.

hence, I feel, their strength is of most importance. That strength

will be used in a positive or negative way based on the rest of the

chart.

Thats why, its written somewhere (I dont remember the source,

unfortunately) that if either of Sun or Moon is debilitated in a

chart then that single factor is enough to destroy all the Raj-yogas

present in the chart. Note that debilitation for moon is 3 degrees in

scorpio and for sun its 10 degrees in libra and need not be the whole

signs..

Please correct if I'm wrong..

Regards,

-phatak
