Gauquelin House System/Sector

Hi,

I am involved in development of a computer software which mainly deals in

calculating chart based on different HouseSystem. I myself does not know much

as far as Astrology is concerned. I use Swiss Ephemeris for calculating Planet

position.

Is Gauquelin a separate HouseSystem like Lahiri, Placidus

Or

it's an attribute for each of the planets like Nakshatra.

Does Gauquelin system has 36 HouseCusp, instead of 12?

I checked a few astrology software which just show GauqelinHouseSector (between

1 to 36) next to each of the planets.

While a few astrology software calculate altogether different Planet position

when one goes for Gauquelin House setting.

For a given Birth Data,

Can the planet position (degree between 0 to 360) be different for different

HouseSystem we select to calc BirthChart?

Can someone suggest me a good book which explains calculations involved in Vedic

Astrology (specially Gauquelin and Navamsa Chart) and where can I get those

books?

Is there any guru or institute based in Pune whom I can approach to understand

the calculations involved?

Thanks a lot,

Nimish

(I am based in Pune, Maharashtra, India.)

Aum Namah Shivaya

Dear Mr. Nimish Gupta,

Your questons clearly indicate that you know nothing of astrology-

western or vedic! It is not possible to develop a software till you

can appreciate the basics properly, even if you had a full fledged

astrologer guiding you. Well???!!! Anyway I will answer very briefly

your questions though I wonder how much of the following you will

understand!?

1. If as you say, you are using the Swiss ephemeris, it contains all

that you need to calculate any house system really.

2. Lahiri is an ayanamsa, not a house system

3. Placidus is a house system

4. Gauquelin sectors are NOT a house system. Though the idea can be

used with other house systems, the Gauquelins themselves used

Placidus tables. So I guess the G-sectors are used with Placidus

houses actually.

5. To convert to G-sectors the formula used is:

360°-Placidean domitude

------------------------

10

A domitude is the exact position of an astronomical point on the

local sphere on which the twelve houses are defined. And the sectors

themselves are numbered clockwise, with sector 1 being the area just

after the planet rises.

6. As for your question about a good book of Vedic astrology

calculations especially for G-sectors, you SIMPLY WILL NOT FIND ONE,

for the simple reason that G-sectors is NOT part of vedic astrology.

And I wouldn't recommend it to any vedic astrologer really.

7. Try asking about G-sectors on some western astrology list, not

here. Again, not many western astrologers will be able to help you.

Only the ones technically sound might perhaps. Average astrologers

wouldn't have any clue. BTW, it is a modern concept that seems to

have started gaining a little popularity since the 80s. Try astrolog

site. Perhaps you **may be lucky. And if I am not mistaken, the Swiss

ephemeris supports the G-sector position calculations. If you have

licenced it from them, they will probably answer your queries.

Hope this helps.
