The native was the apple of his country's eye for the better part of a decade, especially so between 1995 and March 2000. During this time, he put on the facade of a truly distinguished ambassador of his nation, while in reality, he was a criminal. He'd have carried on in this vein successfully for a lot longer had not accidental telephonic eavesdrop caught him out. In March 2000, the skeletons well and truly came tumbling out. The whole of his nation stood behind him when the first allegations were made. They stood for less than 48 hours, because the native himself confessed to the crimes.
