Planetary Strength

Hi,

 

To me, determining planetary strength, like anyhthing

else in Astrology, depends greatly on the level of

practical experience one has in assessing charts - the

more you do it, the greater "feel" you get for the

intuitive process. All of those rules you stated,

while important, especially early on, can really go a

long way towards frustration if you're not careful.

 

When looking at a chart, I usually look for angular

planets, in general. They are almost always clear

signals of planeary strength. Of course, planets in

their own or exalted or debilitation signs will go a

ways towards modifying this. Planets in the Trik

Houses, 6, 8, or 12, tend to weaken those planets.

Planets that are strengthened in the Navamsa,

especially if they are Vargottama, are extremely

strong, unless its a case of debilitation.

 

I do make use of the idea of Postional Strength, taken

from the old time rules of Shad Bala: Mercury and

Jupiter get maximum strength in the 1 house, Venus and

the Moon in the 4, Saturn in the 7 and Sun and Mars in

the 10.

 

Other than that, I just try to keep it simple.
