Guest guest
All, I forget the person who asked about the necessity and importance of the Navamsa, so I'm addressing this to everyone in the forum. Although Rob Koch and several others have addressed this, and my views concur their own, I thought that I would throw my hat into the ring on this topic. The Navamsa, is a micro-zodiac of sorts, in that it is a sub-division of a sign of the zodiac. Each sign is divided by 3 degrees, 20 minutes, and when this is done to the natal, or Rasi chart, you get what is known as the Navamsa. To me, it's alot like taking your chart, your Rasi I mean, and putting it under a microscope; you know how the doctor will take a blood or dna sample to examine some aspect of your health profile? Well, the Navamsa is like that very same process, you just apply it to astro-situations. The great Parasara says that the Navamsa is to be used for marriage, and one can certainly use if for this purpose, but I follow the lead of the South Indian Jyotishis, who use the Navamsa in much the same way that you would the Rasi. Therefore, all of the house lordships, yogas and so on would apply. Also, since Jaimini Jyotish's birthplace was most likely Southern India, it is often applied to the Navamsa. The Karakamsa is the planet in the Navamsa that would be the Atmakaraka in the Rasi, and this is very helpful when a birthtime is not known or is imprecise. Vedic Philosophy has always recognized the close relationship between numerology and astrology, and this is yet another reason why the Navamsa is so important; from a Vedic point of view, there are 9 planets, 9 prime numbers, it takes 9 months for a human being to be created, and when you think about it, there are 9 orifices in the human body. In the horoscope, perhaps the most important house is the 9, which represents one's relationship to one's father and God, the luck that they receive in this life, and the degree to which they are able to "overstand" the deeper insights in life. It is for these reasons, then, that the Navamsa often is referred to as the chart to which you want to look to see a person's true character. This is why you read about how a Navamsa can make or break a chart, thru the placement of the planets there. If there are strong planets in the Rasi, but those same planets are greatly weakened or afflicted, all that you see is a "front" - and it will be revealed as soon as a Dasa of the offending planet takes place. On the other hand, if the Rasi has planets that are afflicted or rather weakened in some other way, but they are very strong in the Navamsa, it is an indication that even if the person faces alot of opposition, they will have the inner strength to overcome incredible odds; it also suggests that the person is, as they often say, "a good man/woman". Although it is not mentioned in writing much, the Navamsa is heavily used when it comes to chart matching, for relationship purposes. For example, cross-aspect one Navamsa to the other Rasi, and vice-versa, is a recommended way of assessing relationship potential; also doing same with the lords of the Moons. The Navamsa yields its best results when the birth time is precise, at least to within several minutes; when the time is off by 15 minutes or more, the Navamsa Asc can change signs, and give totally wrong results. This is why some Jyotishis forego the Navamsa all together, because the time issues can lead one to give wrong indications and predictions. However, it must be said, that a skilled Jyotishi can use the Navamsa to arrive at the proper time of birth. The Navamsa can be very helpful in terms of timing events, and I have seen this principle play itself out over and over again. Some Jyotishis apply transits as well as Dasas to the Navamsa, and I have seen both principles to work. Off the top of my head, I can think of two famous cases of how the Navamsa came into play in a big way; Marilyn Monroe and Paramahamsa Yogananda. In PY's case, the Navamsa only amped up the indications already evident in his Rasi chart, which pointed in a loud way in the direction of Spirituality. In MM's case, the Navamsa showed just the opposite - she had in there the combination known as the Kala Sarpa Yoga - and she was running the Dasa of Ketu at the time she died, if memory serves. Lastly, my own life is a good example of the power and importance of the Navamsa: Dec 2, 1968, 9:43am EST, Philadelphia, PA, USA. Lagna: 21 Sag. Note how Jupiter, Saturn and Mars gets strengthened. Mercury and Venus, along with Rahu also gets strengthened. Hope all of this helps. Salaam, Mu ===== Mu'Min M. Guest guest
Vyam Vyasadevaaya Namah --------------------------- Dear List, My own short notes of addition: The Navamsa was given a strong importance in the vimsopaka scheme by Parasara, only overruled by the Shastiamsa(d-60). Its very important and shows the place where god communicates with us. Hence when a planet is vargottama we say that god is speaking directly to us, and hence is 'happy'.. however how we feel this in real life may differ from the norms of 'happiness'. Navamsa is the place where we see our Prarabdha karma, and is to be used WITH Rasi chart. The Rasi will show the opportunities we gain in life, whilst the Navamsa will determine the end result of these.. i.e. not every business man can become rich!.. Hence Navamsa is the final determent. An interesting use of the Navamsa, is when delianating omens felt on yourself. Say Atmakaraka is in Taurus Navamsa. Jaimini says that AK in Vrishabamsa causes danger from bulls, cows etc. If this infact happens it means God is displeased with the path you are taking in life, and the punishment is soon to be felt in full force in RASI. Hence God speaks to the soul in Navamsa, who then carries out the order in the Rasi... in laymens terms. Similarly use the other planets placement and results, as omens. Hope this helps. Guest guest
(I am just trying to post this message on the Vedic Astrology Forum and it is not going through. Please do not mind that I send it this way as a "test"...mmdd) Thank-you Farruknauman! I really like the way you gave that little ditty on how: "Only if Venus, lord of ascendant and lord of seventh are in a favourable contact, then they can favour a nice relationship" Still on the topic of Saturn... You have mentioned that Saturn is mean and selfish May I ask.... Is it that when Saturn is dignified or and /or well aspected .... (and even necessary in a spiritualist chart...including Saturn's much needed detachment vibe...(especially on moon) for a Sanyasi.)... that he can "sober" the chart in a less "mean and selfish" way? One case I know of is a Sanyasi renunciate with exalted Saturn in the 5th with Sun, and Saturn's aspect on his moon. This person is famous for his intelligent, personable public relations and cultured "Libra" ways, heavily involved in writing and directing theatre, being featured in high profile movie documentaries, nothing dark or dreary in his chart! But yet he is one of the few Canadians who has walked across Canada!..."..which is the longest road! (Now that would be a Saturnian trait!) and also impeccable sadhana for many years ...about 34 years...also he was never married + ,thusly celibate! May-be you could present some astrological thoughts/examples as to when Saturn is nicely placed?...and what would be examples of a total brutal "Mean and Selfish Saturn!... I have Saturn in 6th aspected by Mars in 12th! "Often, people with a strong Saturn try to either check their partner's sincerity with their own psycho ways or they just start ignoring their partner when they are fed up of him/her..." I think that I may have to admit to doing this!...(just a little! bit though!!!) Would that be "good"in the malefics are in dusthanas? They have to be somewhere,no?...lol My info...September 26,1958...23:27(PM)...Montreal ,Quebec Canada any suggestions???(!) thank-you respectfully...mmdd - kanu priya vedic astrology Monday, September 02, 2002 12:18 PM [vedic astrology] Saturn Dear Group Members, I t was really enlightening and interesting to read the various opinions about saturn and about sade sati some days ago.We do often say ohh this mean shani or ohh God my saturn began now its going to be bad.Though there could be a different way of looking at things. Our life is a series of experiences in which we go through ups and downs but all for the reason of learning. The sooner and with least resistence we learn the easier and milder our lessons get.I would say that nothing like the sade sati to teach us the lessons we are here to learn.Saturn is a great teacher and children in school often hate thier teachers when they get strict with us.... I recently finished expereincing my sade sati. When I began I too said I hate shani for doing this to me.Seven and a half years later I thank him, for this has been the most amazing seven and a half years of my life.I lost everything that was dear to me and found my true soul. All we need to do in our ''worst times'' is look at what they are here to teach and learn it with as little resistence as possible and the same time can become a time of great learning and adventure and a fullfilling time for our spiritual growth. Just pay your respects to shani and move along it is nt that bad..
