Guest guest
Dear Narasimha, May 31st and June 7th came and went without much suffering for the world. Will you be gracious to post your post-mortem of your predictions. It will be a good learning to understand as to what else could we have seen in the charts to fine-tune the predictions made for these two days here and on your web-page. Thanks Shashank

For India, we have the birthchart. For USA, we don't have a reliable birthchart. So we have to depend on lunar new year charts and general transits. In any case, predicting the dates of events is difficult. Overall, May-June 2002 is a period of strong negative energies. That it passed without an incident is a testimony to the fact that astrology is only a study of "natural tendencies" and one can beat natural tendencies with "will power". If the tension between India and Pakistan is lowered, it is due to the tremendous will power displayed by the wise and mature world leaders, including those of India and Pakistan, in resisting natural tendencies. If there was no terrorist attack on USA, it was because of the awesome work of the intelligence and law enforcement communities. A period of tremendous negative potential is almost nearing its end and thank god for it! Anyway, I've never had much success with predictions for USA. But I've had a very good record with my predictions for India. It possibly has to do with the availability of an accurate chart. The only mundane prediction that I can confidently make now is about India. India will flourish during 2002-2011 and become a powerful nation. War or no war, India will flourish. The spectacle of nuclear holocaust painted by some people is not going to happen. India is a country on the verge of great tidings. India will pursue self- interests assertively and wisely and succeed in decimating enemies in the coming years. Look at how the morale will rise in India in the coming years! May Jupiter's light shine on us, Narasimha
Guest guest
Dear NarasimhaJi, "Astrology is only a study of "natural tendencies" and one can beat natural tendencies with "will power". I dont believe in this entirely, rather what believe is that when tendencies shown by palnets are weak one can beat them with will power like u said, but when they are very strong they drive a person into doing as reflected by tendencies. Guest guest
Dear Mahendra, I know that this email is for Narasimha, so sorry for butting in. I would tend to agree with Narasimha. We are touching on the topic of Fate v/s Free will. 33% is in our hands (Upachaya houses) i.e Free will and 66% is fate or destined. Guest guest
Om Guruave Namah Dear Ash, Yes, i have read the article of Gurudev Sanjay about upachaya amounting to 33%. Well.. maybe this question of mine is stupid.. never-the-less here goes... Whatever we do... 33% is always less than 66%. so in a way isn't everything fate or pre-ordained? Maybe Guru PVR will oblige in helping me understand this. Guest guest
Hi Ash, Every one has his own views, what u r saying is right. But this is what i have learned from my experince. Certain people have strong tendencies for something for example there are people who get angry and destructive suddenly on an impulse. They later regret it and even try hard (Will power in action) not get angry. But at time they are out of their mind so suddenly that they themslves do not realise untill they are cooled down. You know there are killers who when asked as to their reason for killing are unable to explain why? they say that they simply get an urge to kill and they are unable to control themselves. I cant remember the source of this. There was even a study done by way of which scientists have found that certain people have certain genes which make them very aggressive . Dosent this shows that at times we cannot control our tendencies even by strong will. regards, Mahendra vedic astrology, "ashsam73" <ashsam73@h...> wrote: > Dear Mahendra, > > I know that this email is for Narasimha, so sorry for butting in. > > I would tend to agree with Narasimha. Guest guest
Dear Mahendra, I think we are on the same page, and that is why you check an event from Lagna, Sun and Moon. Moon would show mind. You also have Vimshottari Dasa starting from Moon and Graha dristi (desires). These are the tools used in Astrology specifically to address the interesting questions that you have written. You then also have the Kalchakra dasa that shows the emotional state and its based on the moons position in Navamsa, so here in essense we are checking the deep desires from dharmamsa. There may be others which I am not aware of. These show the natural tendencies but upachaya houses is what we can do and is in our hands. Yes, the desires may be strong but if the upachayas are strong then we can take measures. The best analogy that I can think of to explain what I am saying is for example child birth can be predicted from a chart, but birth control is in our hands. This I can say is fate/free will. Hope what I am trying to say is clear, Thanking you, Cheers !!! Guest guest
Hi Hari, If everything was pre destined, how could we accumulate good Karma in this life time ? There has got to be something in our hands that we can do or a leeway that we can make and effort (upachaya) that would help us eliminate bad karma of past life, and we can accumulate good karma in this life time that will help or make us suffer the next one. Hari, I am not to well versant with the Karmic laws or different types of karmas that exists, but I am just using my logic here. Maybe Narasimha or the more learned can talk more about this. Thanking you, Cheers !!! Guest guest
Dear Ash, I think what u r saying is right. All that i am saying is that there r time and tendencies when free will is stronger and other times the fate is stronger than will. I think this is a very complicated issue, may be gruji will shed some light upon us. By the way can someone explain this based upon my examples. regards, Mahendra vedic astrology, "ashsam73" <ashsam73@h...> wrote: > Dear Mahendra, > > I think we are on the same page, and that is why you check an event > from Lagna, Sun and Moon. Guest guest
Dear Ash et.al, I am new to this group and also to a "serious" study of Vedic Astrology but I do have a few thoughts to share. An authorized and extensive explanation of Karma and its mitigation and the concept of free will is spoken by the Master Mystic Shri Krishna Himself in the Bhagavad Gita and the Srimad Bhagvatham. Our actions are controlled by the three modes of material nature and they are the 1) Mode of Goodness (Sattwa) 2)Mode of Passion (Rajas) 3) Mode of Ignorance (Tamas).Every action of ours and every state of mind can be classified as being under one of these modes. Some of us display predominantly Sattvic tendencies , while some of us are predominantly Rajasic or passionate. Our actions and thoughts and behaviour almost always is dominated by one of these modes.A thorough description is provided by the Supreme Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita. So even our horoscopes should display the dominance of such qualities. For instance lets study the attribute or condition called "Happiness" in the light of the three modes or Gunas. 1)The pursuit of Happiness in the mode of Goodness is described as "Poison in the begining and Nectar in the end". For example, if we take up serious sadhana or devotiuonal service, it requires our being up at 4.00 AM, (Poison) but the end result could be Nectar. So happpiness in this mode is poison in the begining and nectar in the end. 2)The pursuit of Happiness in the mode of Passion is "Nectar in the begining but Poison in the end". The mode or guna of passion(Rajas) does not require a deep explanation, every one of us knows of some case of passion which felt very good in the begining but later ended in a disaster. 3)The pursuit of Happiness in the Tamasic mode is described as "foolishness in the begining and foolishness in the end". A good example of happiness in Tamas is the act of drinking alchohol. This invariably results in foolishness in the begining of the act as well in the end. The Lord instructs us next about freewill.Freewill can only be exercised in the mode of goodness(Sattwa), while in the other two modes or gunas we dont have a choice, we are led by the modes themselves. There is no freewill in the gunas of Rajas and Tamas. A good example of freewill was given by Srila Prabhupada, where the living entity could be described as an animal tied to a pole by a lengthy rope. Some of us have a short rope or little freewill and other more advanced souls have longer ropes or greater freewill. So to sum it up freewill depends and is directly proportionate to our spiritual advancement.A spiritually advanced person is predominantly in the Sattvic mode or guna and hence the person has greater freewill. So our scriptures constantly advise us to act in the mode of goodness. Guest guest
Dear Sudarshan, A very interesting post indeed. But something is not fitting in my mind. If its said that Free will is only exercised for good will or good deeds then how do some people intetionally cause harm to others thereby accumulating bad karma. I have a feeling that this cannot just be for goodness. However if you exercise free will for goodness like if you win say a lottery and u donate it to charity, then that is free will and adds to the bucket of our good karmas, but instead someone might choose to do some evil with that money then u accumulate bad karmas. There is a saying "what goes around comes around" so if you do good deeds then good things will happen to you, but if a person *chooses* to bad things then that will come back to you to bite you. So it again boils down to the fact that That choice to do good or bad lies in our hands how much is restricted to upachaya houses. So it just cannot be for satwa gunas but also applicable to rajas and tamas, as a person may choose to do Good deeds or Bad deeds its the persons choice. We just cannot say that free will is applicable for satwa gunas. If my understanding about your post is incorrect, please feel free to correct me. Thanks, Cheers !!! Guest guest
Dear Ash, I did not intend to convey the impression that freewill can only be exercised for good things.I said that a person can be influenced by three modes of nature 1)Goodness 2)Passion 3)Ignorance.There is NO freewill if we are under the influence of passion or ignorance, i.e Rajas and Tamas. The acts that we commit under the influence of the Gunas of Rajas and Tamas, are controlled by the Guna itself. In otherwords, we have two influences that cause action 1)Mode we are under 2)Freewill. I could summarize as 1)Mode of Goodness -Sattwa Guna - Freewill exists Allows us to think and take direction from scriptures/Guru.If we are calm , we can think.Thats a simplistic example of Sattwa or Goodness. 2)Mode of Passion - Rajo Guna-No Freewill-Man acts purely under the influence of the Guna or Mode. This mode does not allow us a chance to think, for example a person who is very impulsive is predominantly under the Rajo guna or passion. So the person cannot have any freewill, he/she in passion will be impulsive. 3)Mode of Ignorance-Tamo Guna - No Freewill-Man acts purely under the influence of the Guna or Mode. This again does not allow us to exercise freewill.Ever tried talking to a drunk. They lose all capacity to think or exercise any freewill. We as human beings are always under the influence of one of the three modes of nature. Now your confusion is probably because you think even a passionate person can 'think" and get out of their situation, but history tells us otherwise. How many times have we heard the expression "What was I thinking? I cant imagine I did this?"Once we are gripped by the mode of passion, we are led by lust, which when unsatisfied, leads to anger and the anger eventually leads us to commit abominable acts.So the trend is first Lust then anger and finally unthinkable acts.So the Lord advises us to first avoid such situations(Lust). The next question naturally should be how do we remain in Goodness or sattwa. The scriptures advise the avoidance of certain foodstuffs (meat, intoxicants), certain places , seek a Guru, hear from such Realized souls the truth and finally be aware of the existence of the three modes.A good exercise would be to identify our mood and check to determine if we are in Goodness, Passion or Ignorance. The horoscope could be used to determine such tendencies or any predominance and then be cautious. I hope this was clearer. vedic astrology, "ashsam73" <ashsam73@h...> wrote: > Dear Sudarshan, > A very interesting post indeed. But something is not fitting in my > mind.
