Guest guest
I am sending this on to all those in the vedic astrology group as a courtesy for any viruses I might have caused you on your computers dqm - Debra Quinn Mehren S. Veerabahu Tuesday, May 07, 2002 11:42 AM Re: Virus Warning Dear Mr. Veerabahu, Than you so much for your kind reply regarding computer viruses. Yes, you are correct about this particular virus being so virulent. Over the weekend, my husband did contact Symantec as you did and found the particular virus that you mentioned. It was corrected BUT as of yesterday, my McAFee virus software was still not working properly. It's software was apparently infected also. My husband came home last evening with the Norton software that he uses at his office. This seems to have work just fine. So now I have Norton virus protection. The program is staying on, on my computer instead of disappearing or being off all the time. While Norton was downloading on my computer and installing itself it went through (and I kid you not) 66,000 known viruses!! I appreciate your advice on updating my Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. I have been needing to do that for sometime now. Thank you again for your letter. I am forwarding your information on to others. Sincerely, Debra Quinn Mehren - S. Veerabahu Debra Quinn Mehren Monday, May 06, 2002 3:38 PM Re: Virus Warning Dear Ms. Mehren, Thank you for caring to send this virus alert to potential recipients of infected email. I run the Hindu Temple web site (as a volunteer) from my computer at home and had corresponded with you some time ago about your visit to the temple. My computer was infected (not due to email from you) and I had it fixed. I did some research before handing the computer for repairs and would like to share with you some information gathered. I have Norton Internet Security and Antivirus programs installed in my computer. This is a good program and can be set up to automatically download updates when the computer is in use. The updates run in the background and will not interfere with other programs in use. When my computer was checked, it was found that a virus had attacked the Norton Antivirus program!! It seems a fired employee of Symantec Corporation (which puts out the Norton software) is circulating the virus. Being an insider he knew all the weak links in Norton as well as Microsoft Internet Explorer programs. If you have Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 or 5.5 and Microsoft Outlook Express or Outlook Express, a "vulnerability" in the Internet Explorer program can create problems. If you receive an email with a virus attachment and merely open the email (with out opening the attachment), the virus attachment will execute and infect your computer. After opening the mail, even if you suspect that the attachment is infected (has files with extensions .exe, .bat, ..pif, scr) and delete it, the damage has already been done! Information on a deadly virus W32.Klez.E@mm and "vulnerability" of Microsoft Internet Explorer is available at the Norton web site: Go to: www.symantec.com On the home page, left side under Security Response, click on W32.Klez.gen@mm Click on W32.Klez.E@mm found in first paragraph. If you have Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 5.0 or 5.5, the vulnerability can be eliminated by upgrading to version 6.0 (which can be downloaded from Microsoft website free of charge). You may want to consider upgrading to Outlook or Outlook Express version 6.0. Downloading these and integrating them can be quite involved. Hope this is helpful. I was left opened to viruses for 10 minutes only. So Beware The viruses attacked my address book and other areas of my computer. The problem is resolved. I hope all of those that I did not get returned virus protection undeliverable mail from are alright. I know for sure that one of the viruses was called "Hello, Darling" Hope all is well DebraTo from this group, send an email to:Jyotish_DiscoveryYour use of is subject to the
