Dear Claudio,

I have so far translated 48 chapters of BPHS in French and I have no idea

where you could have found that Maharishi Parasara advised a year of 360

days...

Regards.

Lucas.

Om Gurave Namah

Dear Lucas

Maharishi parasara could never have said such a thing - whether in BPHS or any

othe writing like the Rig Veda. A samvatsara is defined by the entry of the Sun

into sidereal Aries and this definition has been held by Varahamihira who was an

ardent follower of the preceptors and aa worshipper of Surya. That is why I use

360 degree motion of the Sun and nothing else.

dear guru's and friends,

Sorry I have been somehow confused with some old (manual) reckoning of the

vimshottari dasha that I did years ago where the years were of 360 days (12

months of 30 days). I supposed this came from Parashara but I didn't find at

that time where it was written indeed. So if I have understood the recknoning

is in 365.25 days?

The reason I ask you this, is that I have always done this way even though I had

some "erractic" results that I couldn't explain (dasha not machting the event).

I just put this on my ignorance of some rule and went on. With the study of

Jaimini my results have been greatly improved. But last year happend to me a

thing that decidedly didn't match at all in the vimshottari 365.25. I had a

crises of RSI (repetitive strain injury, carpal syndrome injury) in the right

arm mid june 2001.My DOB 27/02/1962 at 21h 51' 20" Brussels 50N51 4E21. It's

over now thank to Ayur veda.

Recently I read on the archives that Narasimha uses the Vimsh.360 and this

picked up my curiosity and give me the idea of trying the vimsho 360 days (a

female friend jyotishi uses this with succes, but I never paid attention to

it). And with this it matches perfectly and mostly if I use your rule Sanjay

of Sun for Maha, then Moon for Antar etc.

I went back to all the important events of my life and I just can note that it matches better.

So, can some one explain what is this option of reckoning the vimshottari in

360. Is it just a new original finding of this computerized era or is it based

on something more sound and ancestral ?

Without pretending this rule being universal, I find it quite interesting in the

few charts on which I tried it.

best regards

Claudio

Dear Friends,

Sorry for Intruding into this conversation.

We are having 2 kinds of years, viz samvatsara and varsha.

Samvatsara is defined as Yugaadi-to-Yugaadi cycle and varsha is

defined as vernal equinox to vernal equinox cycle. Samvatsara

Loosely, a samvatsara is a 'year' but in reality it is a bit longer

than the seasonal year or varsha of Samskr`ta.

This may help you out

Rgds,

VR
