Guest guest
Dear friends, Need your help with timing of birth: If someone was born at 2:40 AM on April 11th, 1936 in Bengal, India. According to Indian Panchang at that time the date did not change till 6am next day morning. I have an old horoscope of this person that was done 50 years back and the date of birth was 2:40 April 10 since in 1936 in Bengal, India- people used bengal time insted of Indian standard time and also the day didn't change till next day 6 am. I was told by some astrologers from bengal that the calculations in panchangs at that time (in 1936)were also done assuming that day didn't change till next day 6 am morning. In JHL I tried to use 2:40AM April 11th, 1936 but it is giving different calculation then the old horoscope I have in posession, JHL calculation matches with the old horoscope if I use April 10th insted. I am confused, why should I use 10th not 11th if that person was really born at 2:40AM 11th April according to present timing rules (date changes after 12midnight)? Thanks Chandan
Guest guest
Aum Namah Sivaya Dear Chandan! The timining for the start of the day which is being followed at present is quite arbitrary and doesn't have any astronomical basis. The true basis for start of a day is sunrise or when the lagna meets the sun. Even if it is taken as 6 AM LMT, then also it makes sense, as at 12 PM LMT, sun is exactly on the meridian and 6 AM is 6 hours before it. Dividing the day in four parts of 6 hours each, it is logical to consider 6 AM LMT to be day start, 6 PM LMT to be day end or night start. According to this if the birth is after 00:00 and before sunrise, then the birth is considered to have occured on the previous day, as the next day only start at Sunrise (or 6:00 AM). why did maharshis used birth time as elapsed from Sunrise or Sunset... What does that mean? Hope this helps Anjanya Dear friends, Need your help with timing of birth: If someone was born at 2:40 AM on April 11th, 1936 in Bengal, India. Guest guest
Anjanya, Thank you for your reply and I do agree with you but I am still not sure : If at present we use next day after midnight to cast a horoscope then in old time also we should use the same method not 6AM for change of day because day change at 12 am and 6am for sure is going to give different calculation.
