Any suggestion on BPHS and Brhat Samhita?

Dear Jotish friends and Gurujis,

I just received Brihat Parashara hora Shastra Vol I & II and Brhat

Samhita of Varahamihira from India. It will be a challenge for me to

read and understand these books since I even get too confused with

other simply written books. Any suggestion how or which one should I

read first?

I see that Brhat Samhita of Varahamihira is not suggested for reading

by Gurujis, any reason?
