Guest guest
Dear Gurudev When I was given the Gayatri mantra, I remember that it WAS whispered in my ear, & I remember that I was told to say it silently, which I do. However, I had forgotten this fact in general. Esp as most people say that mantras have to be correctly intonated AND LOUDLY, for best effect. So, the 3 mantras you & Sarajit gave me recently for my Isht Devata, breaking of KAY by Mn, & the Kantak Shani, I have been merrily doing full-throatedly. I just wanted to reconfirm, as I had earlier thought this silent verbalising was ONLY for the Gayatri (for no particular reason that I knew of). Shall I instead stop shouting the 3 mantras u have given me from the rooftops & whisper it internally. B'cos I thought saying it loudly helps my mind not meander around the topography of what else is happening 'round me, when I'm cowboy-with-lasso-like trying to keep my mind in some even keel, atleast while I am reciting these 3 mantras in the morning. Guest guest
Dear Nandan, I know Gurudev will have a better answer for you but in the meantime. I wanted to refer to his brilliant book ," Vedic Remedies in Astrology". In that book Gurudev speak about how mantras should be chanted. If you own the book, on pg 91 he writes about the 3 ways of chanting a mantra (aloud, silent, part of a transcendental meditation) relating it to the 3 lokas, and the raising of the kundalini through the chakras and says that is the meaning of "Bhu Bhuva Swah" the first line of the Gayatri mantra. Later in the book, in the FAQ appendix 5 he writes that initially chanting a mantra aloud causing the environment to soak up the spiritual energy and benefit anyone in the area. the second stage one chants more quietly, almost inaudible beginning to withdraw yourself from your environment and focus on your breath and gradually (with practice) in the 3rd stage the mantra almost dissolves into nothingness as you are left with the pure Bliss of the Divine. Please notice that some word are mine and not Sanjay-ji's. If you don't own this book of his I highly recommend it. I refer to it daily. I you would like more details I can type out more from his book if you are interested.
