Om Gurave Namah,

Dear Jyotishas,

Which house signifies Bachelor's degree like BE or B.Sc.,

I was usually looking in the 4th house, but should I look into 9th house for

higher education. Bachelors degrees in science, commerce is so common in most

cases in India that can we consider it as basic education?.

Master's degree can count in the 9th house.

What house to look for jyotisha studies like we have in SJVC, 9th house?.

Hi Sanjay and Hari,

If one gets a degree that increases the status of the person then

6th and 10th along with 5th house and their lords have to be studied

as 6th house increases the status and 10th for profession this is

from lagna. 5th house is for degree and 9th for advanced learning

and spiritual learning. But before you dwelve into the degree, the

intellegence of the person has to be gauged as success and failure

would depend on it. The karak for intellegence is Saturn and if

lagna lord, Sun and Moon are in the Saturnian sign in Navamsa,

Drekkhana and Trimsamsa then the person can be very intellegent.

4th house is for knowlege and 5th for degree.

For an institute like SJVC, which does not give any degree, 12th

house and 9th hosue would have to be studied for spirituality and

higher learning.

Sometimes we find that a person may be very intellegent but the dasa

running at that point might now be favourable at all, though a

person is inclined and wants to do say for example engineering but

during the maturity of grade 12 marks and at the time of admission

if the dasa running is not favourable then he may not get admission

into a college, this can also be studied from Navamsa lords of 10th

house from Sun, lagna and moon have to be studied and their

respective strengths.

What may be good education or level of education in one coutry may

be different from the other, and this is also to be studied

depending on the place one is in.

Cheers !!!

Ash

my studies say, we should see:

5th house : for person's desire or inclination to study

9th house : for success or failure in competitive examinations

4th house : for reputation of school or university

2nd house : for the level of success person enjoys while studying at college.

etc

Hi Hari,Saturn is Natural Karak for 4th house. If one gets an educational

degree that enhances their personal status like a promotion, more power in

working environment etc, then 6th house and its lord is responsible for

professional status being 9th from 10th house and 6th from lagna. This also

should be studied from Moon (as to how you feel from your mind) and from Sun

(which might show how you feel from the atma or the soul) 5th house is for

degree and 9th for advanced degree. Yes you are right in saying that 6th house

indicates service, but it also indicates personal status. Mars is the natural

karak for the 6th house, being 8th from natural 6th house. For a chart the

functional karak is the 8th house and its lord from the house under

consideration. When will the event take place and the quality of the event is

a diffent story all together ?Cheers !!!Ashvedic astrology, "Katti

Dear Katti, Partha and Ash,

Sani isn't the Karaka for intelligence, but without

sani's influence you won't become intelligent! This is

the concept of the Tapaswi.

Surya is the Karaka for all knowledge, brain and hence

also intelligence. This is also the result of the

Gayatri for Savitur(Surya).

Best wishes, Visti.

Hi Hari,

Saturn is Natural Karak for 4th house. If one gets an educational

degree that enhances their personal status like a promotion, more

power in working environment etc, then 6th house and its lord is

responsible for professional status being 9th from 10th house and 6th

from lagna. This also should be studied from Moon (as to how you

feel from your mind) and from Sun (which might show how you feel from

the atma or the soul) 5th house is for degree and 9th for advanced

degree. Yes you are right in saying that 6th house indicates service,

but it also indicates personal status. Mars is the natural karak for

the 6th house, being 8th from natural 6th house. For a chart the

functional karak is the 8th house and its lord from the house under

consideration.

When will the event take place and the quality of the event is a

diffent story all together ?

Cheers !!!

Dear Visti

What is going on? Since when did Saturn give retentive memory? Jupiter is

the memory and if guru is in Simhalokamsa the person shall have such a

powerful memory that he shall remember his past 3 lives! (Thats a sloka) Now

Saturn causes debility of Jupiter and loss of memory. I guess we all need a

break.

Dear List,

Saturn is good for retentive memory yes.

Mars is for logical thinking, Mercury for learning

ability. Jupiter for teaching, Venus for creativity,

etc.

Vyam Vysadevaya Namah

--------------------

Dear Gurudeva, Namaste.

Saturn would give the hard-working drive to attain

knowledge.

When Moon is associated with Saturn, the person

dwelves on subjects for a long time, and hence the

repetitive effect.

This is my reasoning, and i didn't differ in other

areas.

Offcourse without Jupiters strength the person would

forget what they were thinking about quite quickly,

and make a bad teacher..This is FAR from the fact with

you, oh Great Simhasan Guru, who is in constant

meditation.

Is this the great blessing of Gayatri?

Yes i need a break, and renewed energy and direction

Its hard to see your goals in sight with Saturn and

Rahu in the 7th.

Best wishes, Visti.

Dear Sanjay,

I didn't want to comment before you, but I was stunned with such information

from Visti whose rapid progress impressed me a lot. Finally, a rigth word.

Chandra causes exaltation of Guru so she would aslo promote memory. For

instance, I have chandra in cancer nearly full (shukla paksha) and Guru is

strong in 10th being also vakra. It is enough that I once glance at a chart, and

I will memorize it for good. I think I can remember all charts I have seen so

far.

Best wishes,

Zoran

Om Guruve Namah

---------------

Dear Sanjay Gurudev,

Pranam.

Let me begin by saying that I do know you are my well wisher.

This is the first time that you have constructively critised my post

and I feel honoured by it. This also gives me a chace to explain my

reasoning, so please bear with me. This is also the first time that

I am writing in reply to your post again I feel honoured.

Here is my reasoning.

5th house rules education - graduate, past karma and so after

thinking about this point as you mentioned about having knowledge of

past 3 lives makes sense as Guru becomes the Karak of natural 5th

house as the 8th hosue from 5th house is Pisces. So it makes sense

as a strong karak would help retain knowledge of 3 past lives. In

your post you menioned that Guru in Simhanloka by that I would

understand that one is studying Guru's strengh in the divisional

charts to judge the strength of the Karak and not just go by Rasi as

you have always emphasised upon.

9th house rules higher education and spirituality and future

knowledge, and 8th from natural 9th house is Cancer which is lorded

by Moon and hence Moon becomes Karak for 9th house. On the same

basis if the Karak Moon is strong then the person would have good

knowledge of the future and good potential for spirituality and

since higher knowledge (analogy to post graduate studies) is

concerned in which more understanding is needed that graduate

(Anology) then in the strictest sense would make a person more

knowledgable. In your book COVA you have mentioned that

Nosterdemaus and Moon for astrology. So that too fits well.

8th house from the natual 8th house is 3rd house which is lorded by

Mercury. So if Mercury the karak of 8th house is strong then the

person should have retaining power of occult science as 8th house

also rules occult sciences amontst other things. So a good

astrologer (holder of occult knowledge) must also have a strong

mercury which again in consideration with divisional charts would be

an asset to a person learning occult sciences like Astrology to

retain knowledge of the occult knowledge. A strong mercury would

also give good vach or power to explain an event.

Venus being 8th lord from natural 12th house Pisces, is the natural

karak for bed pleasures amongsts other factors that 12th house

indicates. A Strong karak will help a person retain knowledge of

the art again emphasising to confirm the strenght of Venus in

divisional charts.

Again if Venus is favourably aspected my Guru then the art will not

be misused but then if it is aspected by Shani then the art will be

misused I am talking about Graha dristi as it will show the desire

Similarly for other planets.

Rahu and Ketu are grahas and they can take the form of the house

they are in and their lords and the constellation lord that they are

placed in, so they can be multifactited and can show different

traits depending on the nature they assume.

Now on the same lines of thinking,

Natural 4th house rules knowledge (General knowledge, not formal

education knowledge), hence I would say knowledge gained from the

hard lessons learned from life and experiences and we know that

experiencs learned the hard way one does not forget easily and 8th

from 4th house is 11th house lorded by Shani. So Shani becomes

Karak for knowledge and Shani by its default traits would teach the

knowledge the hard way. So again on the same lines if Shani is

powerful then a person should retain vidya or harder will be the

lesson or experiences of life and it will not be forgotton easily.

The stronger is Shani analogous to Guru in simhansaloka similar to

Guru in simhansaloka helping a person retain knowledge for 3

lifetimes such would be the strength of Shani and its lessons will

not be forotton.

Who is an intellegent person ?

In all the below criteria one would have to have a good memory,

grasping power and power to understand and comphrehend basically

making a long story short - intellegent?

Some people can say that it is a person that tops a graduate class

(Guru) is intellegent, then some would say that someone who tops a

post graduate class is intellegent (Moon) , then there are others

who can retain knowledge of all the various shokas of Astrology or

other occult sciences (Mercury) is intellegent, but then there are

others who do not have any formal education but have very good over

all knowledge, general knowledge that can be even better than a

person with formal knowledge (Shani) again all depending on strength.

Mirror Mirror on the wall who is the most intellegent of them all ?

There were a few posts by Nandan and Zoran Guru regarding Moon,

Mercury, Guru and Shani. So if we consider 4th house as that of

knowledge then if Shani is strong and confirmed in Divisional Charts

then the person will have the power to retain knowledge, overall

knowledge or general knowledge or knowledge that has been learnt the

hard way.

With that Please feel free to correct my understanding.

Thanking you for listening,

Cheers !!!

Ash

Dear Zoran

i fully agree and mark my words. Visti shall be among the best Vedic

astrologers this world has got. He is very able, capable and sincere. He is

young and needs more years into meditation and the mantra recitation. It is

for this reason that the Rig Veda is very specific about certain ages for

attainment of certain attributes.

It is enough that I once glance at a chart,

and

I will memorize it for good. I think I can remember all charts I have seen

so

far.

Best wishes,

Zoran

Om Gurave Namah

Shri Sanjay,

Namaste. I am sorry if my random reference to Dr Raman offended you. I meant no

disrespect to any one. And, Guruji, I have specifically said Saturn “in

dignity”, which is a typical Raman phrase and certainly not mine. I am still

searching for that particular line (I know I’ve read that line before), and I

intend to find it even if I have to scour all the pages of the books of Raman.

But, in the meanwhile, may I quote this particular sentence from “How to judge

a Horoscope-Volume One”, page 254-255:

“If Moon is in conjunction with Saturn, and there’s no beneficial aspect to

relieve, the mind is stubborn, slow and subject to melancholia. When, however,

there is Adhi yoga or Gajakesari yoga, a well-balanced mind with good reasoning

qualities will develop and a retentive memory is shown.”

Also Guruji, memory is more of a convenient indexing of events & data, so that

retrieval is easy. More of repetitive I/O operations. Doesn’t “Dhi” imply

considerably more than memory? Don’t we have so many “absent minded professors”

whose genius is unquestionable? Since Saturn rules organization and discipline,

and also in a way “ is a planet of logic” ( Page 35 of Notable horoscopes- Adi

Sankaracharya ) a good Saturn can certainly aid a good memory. That’s why memory

can be “trained” unlike true brilliance….

Also Saturn, as Yama, needs to remember everyone’s accumulated karmic balance

sheet spanning so many births, to deal out punishment or to award emancipation.

He’s the oldest and has the longest memory.

Thanks for giving a valuable lesson well meant, well taken & not easily

forgotten (I’ve got a crick in the neck poring over books …) on this auspicious

day of “Ratha Saptami” or “Surya Jayanthi “…

“Dhyaayet-Sooryam Ananthakoti-kiranam Thejomayam-Bhaaskaram

Bhakthaanam-abhayapradam Dinakaram Jyothirmayam Sankaram

Aadithyam Jagadeesam-achyuthamajam Thrailokya choodaamanim

Bhaktabheesta-varapradam Dinamanim Maarthanda-maadhyam Subham “

May He always lead us to Truth.

Regards,

Lakshmi

P.S: Your suggestion of a break makes real good sense. Thanks.

Dear Lakshmi,

This I/O or OS/Architecture is bounded by a *formal* system( aka a

formal system with finite axioms).

-How come you comprehend Dhi with such *inferior* formal system.

-Sadly, the current state of computing is in the state of bankruptcy

with lack of foundations of computing.

-The basic computing model based on hypothetical mathematical machine

Turing machine. Memory in this machine is kinda tape with *finitely*

many cells with scan/write ops. So is current state of Memory market.

-One has to recollect Kurt Godel`s, a famous 20th century logician

from Austria, work[1] and Betrand Russel[2] to comprehend any real

world scenarios. Let me quote my friend in this regard. He met the

car driver of Prof Kurt Godel in Princeton area in late 1970s after

Godel`s Death. According to [3], Kurt Godel was trying to prove the

existence of God. He ended up with Incompleteness Theorem, in brief,

In any axiomatic mathematical system there are propositions that

cannot be proved or disproved within the axioms of the system. In

particular the consistency of the axioms cannot be proved. It is

better to question ourself before comparing to *infinite* and

informal system. Thats why I say Arts/Humanties are superior to

Sciences, which are bounded by axiomatics. So are Astrology, Dhi.

Namaste Venkat,

Where did i ever say that "Dhi" is equal to science? That's the problem with my

rhetoric. Infact, if you read my answer, you'll see that I have said that "Dhi"

is more than mere indexing / memory. It's an indefinable mix of intelligence,

intuition, logic, wisdom, a rare processing power, innovation....if you

consider "Dhi" as root of "Dheeratwa" it means courage...

Dear Lakshmi,

A very successful consulting engineer working for a world known enterprise in

Australia has this very combination - Saturn and Ketu with Moon in Virgo in the

9th. Ascendant is Scorpio. There is no association by Jupiter (in Aquarius),

Venus, Mercury (in LIbra). Sun is in Libra and Mars is in Sag.

He is known for being well informed in a number of fields, not just his own. He

has a couple of masters degrees and also professional qualifications as a

chartered engineer. He is the principal engineer in his area.

So perhaps the effect is not on the reasoning mind. I would agree that there is

a certain level of pessimism where he is often surprised at his own success. So

the level of comfort may be affected, the extent to which he takes the world for

granted (i.e what we get from our mother?)

Dear Visti,

I agree with this completely re Saturn with Moon. I know someone with this

in the 9th who tends to collect post graduate qualifications. To my

knowledge, at present he has 2 masters, 1 business management diploma and 1

chartered engineering qualification. Definitely very hardworking. And a good

mind (Sun Merc together helps too!)

Hi everybody,

I feel that the sign cancer and moon are very

important for ones memory since

cancer is a water sign(it retains everything)

moon is the karaka for mind,

So there cannot be more influential planet than

chandra for one's memory.
