Guest guest
Dear H.R.Rao, In today's world, very few people have family purohits who are dedicated to the family for generations. However, some families do like to go to a specify purohit for many reasons some of which may be personality, price etc. Satya Narayan Vrata is a very common vrata and is performed by one and all in this age. I perform it at home and my mom is my guru who initiated me into prayers. I do not believe that the requirement of a Guru is there at the place of worship because one's soul and dedication is all that is required for Prayers. However when performing Yagnas or Homams, it is required to have knowledgeble priests present to guide us through the homam. For home prayers like Ganesh Sahastranam, Laxmi Pooja , SatyaNarayan Vrata , I don't believe you need a priest unless you cannot perform it without their assistance. It is always good to feed brahmins after perfoming a vrata if available or accessible. IF not possible, do charity to needy people. It is ultimately the feeding of poor people and their blessing which will give fruit to your prayer. Hope this helps clarify. Neena

Guest guest
OM KLEEM KRISHNAYA NAMAHA Namasthe Ninaji,I understood your point. What I am telling is in our place ie.,South Kanara Dist.of Karnataka we follow strictly on this rule that for Sri SathyaNarayana pooja,Sri Ganapathy Homam,Sri Durga homam,Chandika Yagam etc one should get the blessings of Kula Guru and when we make the Sankalpam this will be told by the Kula Guru and the holy water(Theertham) will be put by the wife of the person who does the Yagam or the Pooja and the person will put this water to the small plate allotted for this purpose and it indicates that both husband and wife join together with the initiation of Kula Guru will perform the pooja and the pooja will be done by the said person. At the end of the pooja also the husband will do the Brahmarpana by taking the holy water from wife's hand and puts into the small plate mentioned for the purpose But when we do the Ganapathy homam or Chandika Yagam it is family purohit who takes the permission from the person for whom the Yagam will be performed and does the Yagam. After completion of the Yagam,he will give the Phalam of the Yagam by means of Flowers,Fruits and the Holy ash from the Yagam to the person for whom the Yagam has been performed. If we neglect the family purohit and does these Yagam then it becomes a curse in the next life through Astrology(In some charts we see the Brahmana Shapam or Guru Shapam etc.) Normally in our area we all perform the big poojas and Yajnas with the initiation of family priest only.I have mentioned the method which we do in out area and as I read if we neglect our Family Guru it will be shown in the next born child's chart in the family. I hope the Gurus in this list can through some light on this. Thanking you, With regards, H.R.Rao. - vankateshwara srinagesh vedic astrology Tuesday, January 22, 2002 3:30 PM Re: [vedic astrology] Satya Naryana Vrata without Family priest The feeding of poor is a very wrong word to be used after doing the satya narayana waratha ,they should be addressed as <<< Daridranarayana >>> who knows a king can become a begger & a poor person can become rich ....??? Guest guest
OM KLEEM KRISHNAYA NAMAHA Namasthe Ninaji,I understood your point. But in our place (South Kanara Dist.Of Karnataka)Till now we follow this method of performing any auspicious functions like Sri Sathya Narayana Pooja and other important Yagas like Sri Ganapathy Homam,Chadika Homam,Sri Durga Homam etc.Without his blessings and initiation the function is incomplete. Before sarting of the function the Kula Guru recites Sankalpa and tells the person's wife to put Holy water on the Hand of her husband who does the function who puts it to a small plate mentioned for the purpose. After completing the Pooja or Homam we have to give Brhmarpanam only through our Kula Guru and finally he gives the Phalam of the Pooja or the Homam by means of Holy ash,Flowers and fruits. Then only the function is complete and we get the blessings of the God and the Guru.Whatever the daily poja we are performing for that no Guru is required but for these kind of important Ceremonies, guru is a must. That is why sometimes we see in some charts the troubles are due to Brahmana Shapam or Guru Shapam. This method is followed in our Madhwa Samsthana areas mainly In south Kanara Dist,Of karnataka State. I think the Gurus in this list can through some light on this. Guest guest
Namasta Ramadas Rao, IF a certain procedure is followed in your family in generations, you must definately follow it. My writing is for the general public. IF something is being done in your family that way, please continue the procedure because that is what will give you peace. You have to note that in Andhra, where I belong to , my family has been in prayers for generations. My great grandfather and my grandfather on my father's side both did yagnas and were in this line. I have moved to States and continue to do prayers as mentioned earlier. I hire priests only when I do homam's or Yagnas and I do these homam's in temples. THere are some people I know who reside in India that do use priest even when performing Sathya Narayan Vrata and I believe that is purely up to a person how they wish to conduct a prayer. Ultimately what matters is that are your satisfied with your prayer and does it give you peace of mind. Thanks for your insight thought. Guest guest
Neena, You said it is upto the person if he does Sataya narayan puja hiself or hire a priest. I am not a Brahmin, in India we use to have priest do satayanarayan puja and I was told that I must have a Brahmin to get satayanarayan puja done. So, are you saying that anyone can do Satya narayan puja? Thanks Chandan vedic astrology, Neena Gopal <neenag2000> wrote: > Namasta Ramadas Rao, > IF a certain procedure is followed in your family in generations, you > must definately follow it.
