Dear anand and list

i agree that it is very important to ask questions in good horas and

on week days that are shubha for the native. But i would also mention

that one should ask questions to people who are sincere themselves.

How to ascertain that. This comes with a bit of experience and

relaisation. if you are a part of list, then do not ask questions

immediately. notice how the astrologer is trying to interpret. use

your discretion to analyse his behaviour. However great an strologer

may be, if the astrologer is evading 'imortant' questions then he is

not justifying his job. I am also the first person who would say that

we should not ask personal questions on the list. Queries that are

technical in nature which are meant more of doubts should be

addressed to a group. One should not reveal his personal data as if

it is a bazaar or a shop. Please be careful. any way i am not old

enough to advise people older to me, but certainly younger people can

take a clue from here.

You are raising important ethichal questions, namely:

1. How to verify the sincerity of the astrologer?

2. Should we put personal questions onnthe list?

Let me explain my understanding of these questions, maybe it will help

someone.

1. According to Parashara, an astrologer by definition should be an honest

and pious person, therefore it is an offence to test the knolwedge of the

astrologer. Both Parasara and Harihara say that if the client is not sincere

and submissive, but rather challenging, then the answer should not be given

to him. But you are also tright that in this age not all who claim to be

astrologers would fulfil these reqiorements completely. Therefore the

clients need to be careful and approach those astrologers who have some

reputation of being authentic. Of course you might want to check that the

prospecitve astrologer has really acquired the qualifications listed by the

Maharishis, of which the most important are:

1. He is well conversant with all the angas of Jyotish, and especially the

classical writings

2. He has been trained by a Guru in the Jyotish parampara, and has perfected

the mantra received from him

3. He is leading a pious life and worships God, and thus acquires the proper

intuition to make correct readings

4. He has a thorough experience in reading charts.

I also suggest one principle for dealign with astrologers, or even in

general, which may be a little difficult to execute, but is very nice. Trust

someone until he gives a reason to withdraw your trust. In other words trust

the astrologer unless he proves to be a fraud.

2. Regarding the personal questions on the list, I would say that I also

enjoy more discussing Jyotish principles than personal charts, but of course

while discussing a principle, you can't and shouldn't avoid experimenting

with it in personal charts. So they are not to be banned from the list. Just

maybe the emphasis of the question should be shifted. For exemple if someone

tries out some principle in his or another chart, he may post his findings,

and many Jyotish Gurus will be happy to evaluate the attempt. But if we just

post our questions, and take part passively, no one will be so inclined to

answer. On the other hand, I see no problem with hsaring our birth data on

the list, after all, what is so secret about it? we know the borth data of

thousands of famous poeple, and hadn't even asked them whether they have

something against us discussing their charts. So my data are not a secret,

and if someone doesn't want to hide their data, I'm not against discussing

their charts. On the other hand, if someone feels that his privacy is

offended by displaying his data, I have nothing agains it, he may get a

private reading from ani yo of the astrologers.
