A question of retrogrades

Hello! I want to know two things specifically:

1. In my chart, the ascendant lord Mercury (virgo asc) is retrograde

in Gemini, 1 degree away from the Sun.

2. In my son's chart, the lord of 5 and 8 (Jupiter - he's a Leo asc)

is retrograde in Pisces.

What exactly do these two retrograde planets signify vis-a-vis the

effects of the tenth and eighth houses?

Dear Visti,

Y'know, it was in a way good that you answered my

earlier post about retrograde planets the way you did;

gives me an opportunity to tell you that I'm greatly

fascinated by this whole business of retrogrades.

Sadly, in all the books of Raman that I have, there's

nothing more than a passing reference to such planets,

apart from where he's explained chesta bala in "Graha

And Bhava Balas". Almost nowhere has he paid special

or particular reference to retrogrades. I expected to

find a nice, chunky section regarding these in BPHS,

but that wasn't to be either, except when planetary

strengths are discussed.

I recently went and bought a slim book on retrograde

planets by a lady western astrologer, but she's used

the book more as a vehicle to disparage vedic

astrologers and their ideas on western astro than

writing intelligibly on the main subject matter. So

overall, that book wasn't any great shakes either. But

I did find a useful little PDF file containing

discussions between Sanjay, Narasimha and others.

This was the main reason for my earlier post, Visti.

Regards,

Ramapriya

Vyam Vysadevaya Namaha!

Dear Ramapriya,

The Luminaries are always direct.

The Planets differ between retrogade and direct.

The Nodes are always Retrogade(using mean nodes).

So now we have a scheme to go by!

Try reading BPHS, Sloka 9-4. Theres a reference to retrogades in case of judging

Aristha Yogas. See the difference of when the Benefic is direct and when its

retrogade.

Among the Nodes, Rahu is the one with eyes. Rahu indicates the desires that have

remained from past birth.. Past Birth is the key to understanding retrogades.

Now its your turn.

Best wishes, Visti.
