Guest guest
Dear Prasanna, here is a bit on houses that you may find helpful HOUSE SYSTEMS There are a few different house systems common to Vedic astrology. The most common system is known as the Rasi Chakra (sign chart). This is the simplest method of determining the houses. In the Rasi Chakra the first house is determined by the rasi rising on the eastern horizon at the time of birth. This rasi is known as the Lagna, or ascendant. Each successive rasi thereafter is another house. The Rasi Chakra is unique in that each rasi is considered as an entire house regardless of what degree a particular rasi rises. The Rasi Chakra has the least amount of change on a given day than any of the other house systems. Due to this it is the core chart that is the foundation of the horoscope. The other house systems can modify or add detail to what is indicated by the rasi chart, but never change it; they rest on the foundation that is the Rasi Chakra. The Rasi Chakra is used by all Vedic astrologers and is considered to be of primary importance. There are two other, more mathematical, methods of determining the extent of the houses. These more mathematical methods are known as Bhava Chakras (house charts). One type is known as the Vedic Equal system of house division. In the Vedic Equal system the degree of the rasi rising, or ascendant, becomes the cusp, or center, of the first house and every 30 degrees thereon becomes the cusp of the succeeding house. 15 degrees before and after the house cusp becomes the house proper and each house is exactly 30 degrees in extent. This is generally called the Equal House Chart. The other method for determining the Bhava Chakra is known as the Sri Pati method. In the Sri Pati method the degree of the rasi rising becomes the cusp of the first house, similar to the Vedic Equal method. A point called the mid-heaven becomes the cusp of the 10th house and the point opposite the mid-heaven becomes the cusp of the 4th house. The mid-heaven is determined by a meridian drawn through the highest point directly overhead, and intersecting the ecliptic. The space between the first house cusp and the 4th house cusp is trisected creating the cusps of the 2nd and 3rd houses. The points opposite these become the cusps of the 8th and 9th houses. The portion between the 10th house cusp and first house cusp is similarly trisected creating the cusps of the 11th and 12th house cusps. The points opposite these become the cusps of the 5th and 6th houses. The house cusps mark the center of the houses. The unique feature of this system is that since the 10th house cusp is generally not perpendicular to the first house cusp the houses are of different extents. The Sri Pati house system creates two potential areas that may create confusion in one's interpretation: There may be different house lords for the Bhava Chakra than for the Rasi Chakra due to the unequal division of the houses. As a result, two house cusps often fall in one rasi, and some rasis may not hold any house cusps at all. At greater northern or southern latitudes this becomes extreme, often one rasi holds three or more house cusps. Due to this, many western astrologers in Europe who regularly calculate horoscopes for people born further north than 50-degrees north, rely on the equal house system. Three house systems to choose from may cause a lot of confusion. My view is the following: 1. The Rasi Chakra is of primary importance; it is a safe bet that never seems to fail. All astrologers use this one first, most astrologers use this one only. 2. The Bhava Chakras rest on the foundation of the Rasi Chakra, so they can add detail to what is indicated by the Rasi Chakra, but they can in no way alter what the Rasi Chakra indicates. I have found that a planet will manifest the indications as seen in the Rasi Chakra, through the house it falls in the Bhava Chakra. 3. The Equal House system is more preferable than the Sri Pati method. It works well at all latitudes, and, since it changes less quickly than the Sri Pati method, it creates a stronger foundation chart than the Sri Pati. 4. The Sri Pati Bhava Chakra may to be more important in Varshaphal (solar returns). Guest guest
Vyam Vysadevaya Namaha! ------- Dear Ernst and Prasanna, Another method of using the Bhava Chakra, which is being promoted by Sanjay Rath, is to draw the equal house system from the Bhava Lagna, which is among the "Special Ascendants" given by Parasara. This Bhava Chakra from Bhava Lagna, is however not recommended for normal predictive purposes. Heres a link to an article about the same: http://sjvcusa.org/Articles/bhava.htm Best wishes, Visti. --- Ernst Wilhelm <ernst wrote: > Dear Prasanna, > here is a bit on houses that you may find helpful > HOUSE SYSTEMS > There are a few different house systems common > to Vedic astrology.
