Namaste Ramapriya,

In chapter 8, it is clearly mentioned that this method (between exaltation

and debilitation points) is used for calculating the Vargavimshopakam, as

sort of Shad Bala.

In chapter 29, the placement of a planet in its moolatrikona is taken into

consideration for calculation Saptavarga Bala, and there, moolatrikona is

the most powerful. On the contrary, for calculating Uchcha Bala, you take

the position of the planet with regard to its exaltation or debilitation

points.

In chapter 30, moolatrikona sign and exaltation sign are both taken into

consideration for calculationg Shubh-Grahankas.

In chapter 3; what you mentioned is related to the strength of the effects

of a planet situated in various positions. So the purpose here is a bit

different than in other means of calculation of strength (I haven't cited

them all...), as Parasara states that the EFFECTS of the planet are

dependent on its placement.

So, you see, there are various ways of determinating stregth of a planet's

effects. Each one may have a diffeent purpose, or have the same, it's just

that there are a lot of different ways to calculate the strength, as there

are various ways to calculate longevity.

But you brought an interesting theoretical question concerning venus and

Jupiter, but this has to be analysed in the case of calculating Uchcha Bal

for example.

But if the authors of vedic treaties stated like this, there should be a

reason for it. If we start wondering why is it like that, why narayana dasa

is calculated this way and not another, why this yoga is formed this way and

not an other... we will lose time.

Thanks to ancient jyotish writers, we have a considerable amount of

knowledge and of methods of calculation. What we have to understand is if

each one has a different purpose.

Lucas.
