Guest guest
Dasara curse sends people to forest picnic BY P V KONDAL RAO TIMES NEWS NETWORK WARANGAL:The Dasara season is here and gardens and groves in Telangana have suddenly turned lively with families and large groups of people making a beeline for them. This annual go-for-the-garden mood has little to do with love for greenery but is borne out of the fear of Dasara Keedu (curse of Dasara), which people believe, can be overcome if they participate in a vana bhojanam (feast in a grove). With the festival slated for the last week of October with the day falling in the adhika maasam of the Telugu calendar month of Ashwiyuja, the belief is that people must leave their village and go out to overcome the ill effects of such a combination. The curse of the adhika maasam can be wiped out by the symbolic vana bhojanam, people believe. Warangal city too is no different from the rest of the region with several vana bhojanams arranged by various street and colony welfare committees. According to Edla Srinivas of Kothawada of Warangal, the adhika maasaa aspect was creating apprehensions among the public this year. Many feel that this could be one reason for the present uncertain situation across the world, hence the repentance (praayaschitha) was planned with the aid of vana bhojanams, he said. The falling of the festival in the adhika maasa has also meant a change in the Boddemma and Bathukamma festivals, traditionally celebrated along with Dasara. The Bathukamma festival was celebrated during the first Ashwiyuja of this year. Villagers in the North Telangana districts in general and in the Huzurabad sub division limits of Karimnagar in particular, say that the festive atmosphere during the current season was not advisable. Even the sales in cloth stores and readymade garment showrooms have not picked up as the village elders reportedly suggested against celebrations during the current festival period. This has led to the show rooms in north Telangana districts wearing a deserted look during the evenings, which are normally the shopping hours. ____________________ Thought this was a interesting article does this affect this area only or should all persons go on a picnic Looking forward to insights from senior members. Guest guest
Dear sri Kondal Rao You seem to have got the Telagu Lunar Calender, wrongly. The Adhik Ashweena Masa will be over on 16th Oct. Dassera is on OCT 26, the 10 th tithi in NIJA ASWEENA Masa. The introduction of the Adhika Masa, changes only the English Dates of the Indian Festivals, not their Lunar Tithis, and Masas. No festivals are celebrated in ADHIK MASAs. please recheck your panchangam Make a great connection at Personals. http://personals.
