Guest guest
Dear Sanjay, > What are the good things that Ravana has done for > Bhagavan sri Ram?? Ravana cannot be completely evil, as although he captured Rama's wife, he never had sex with her, and respected her marriage to Rama to that extent. Why is this? What is his reason for capturing her, just to start a fight? I think Asuras sometimes just like disturbing things. best regards, Alex J
Guest guest
Dear Alex, If one is in such a position of power and fame that no one in the 3 worlds can touch you, and if someone hurts that person's sister, i guess that person would do any thing to assuage his wounded pride. So be it with Ravana. I think Ravana has been tainted down history. He was supposed to extremely talented and is known to have sung the Sama Veda to the pleasure of Lord shiva. It is fabled that his Veena was special to him and no one could manage to strum such a huge instrument. He is known to have done many penances too. In present day movies if someone avenges the disgrace brought to his sister then he is called a hero. I guess everything is merely an interpretation and will remain subjective. Guest guest
Dear Alex, Ravana is a learned brahmin. His birth was due to a curse to Jaya-Vijaya due to their incorrect behaviour. But reasons for Ravana not abusing Sita are different. He had a curse (in that life) from Puroorava (I guess). If he compels any lady to have sex, he will die. That was the curse. And that is why he did not compel Sita. Instead he tried to make Sita helpless by killing Rama, which he could not, as Rama was the Supreme lord himself! It is really difficult to understand the philosophy. Why the asuras do not really die?? Kalanemi was killed by Vishnu and he takes birth again like Kansa. Krishna kills him again. How many time does Vishnu have to kill same asuras? Why he do not kill them for ever? How come from Vishnu, from whom the holy Ganga took birth, asuras take birth (Madhu and Kaitabha)? Guest guest
Namaste Anandji you are right insofar that a brother's duty is one to protect ones sister But unfortunately he (Ravana) never attempted to ascertain the exact reasons for his sisters misfortune of having her nose chopped by Lakshman. Lakshman did what he did to protect his 'sister-in-law - Sitaji' as Ravana's sister was attempting to attack her. Perhaps had Ravana known this he may not have acted as he did - but then again who can change the course of ones destiny? Certainly there is no disputing the fact that Ravana was a very highly 'lauded' pundit who Shri Rama requested at his death-bed to preach to his younger brother Lakshman. Best wishes ..... Guest guest
Om Gurave Namah -------------------------- Dear Alex, I am not questioning the ability or knowledge or competence of ravana. after all, he has got Moksha and i am still hanging around in this planet. so, ravana is definitely an exalted soul as compared to me (at least in the eyes of Bhagavan sri rama). Point is what good did he do for Rama? like Kamsa..what good did he do for Krishna? Hint: harer nama harer nama harer namaiva kevalam kalau nasty eva nasty eva nasty eva gatir anyathaa Even in his hatred and his anger by day and night these two demons actually chanted the names of Bhagavan. ravana was forever thinking of Rama and how to defeat Him ever since he lost the Swayamvara and could not string the bow of Shiva and Kansa was forever chanting the name of krishna..alas in hatred. This is the great teaching. In whichever form you shall think of the Lord, in that very form and attitude shall he come. Both got Moksha. so let us all say HARE RAMA KRISHNA.
