Guest guest
Hello, I am currently studying the ashtakavarga. It is difficult to find something which works in the usual bibliography (Raman, Houck, Aditya, Krishan, Patel...). I have no problem with theory, only when I want to apply it in the charts. So, could the scholars who regularly use the ashtakavarga give me some suggestions? These are three others questions: 1. Some astrologers suggest we read the karakas according to the bindus they get in their ashtakavarga. My Mercury is 7 points in the AV. My Sun is only 3 points. Does it work to say: "sharp mind" (for Mercury) and "troubles for the father" (for the Sun)? 2. Same question with the SAV. My 12th house is 16 points. So, what should be the effect (troubles if I stay in foreign countries?)? 3. What do we know about the origins of AV? I have the BPHS and Vahara Mihira BRIHAT JATAKA. The AV appears in these books as a sophisticated system? Do we know more about more ancient origins? Nothing in ancient western astrology is similar. Thanks a lot for your lights Denis
Guest guest
Om Gurave Namah -------------------------- Dear Denis, Any bhava with Low SAV is weak and this is good in dusthana. However, there are other side effects of a weakness in a bhava and remedial measures have been given by Parasara. Specifically, To Your Question 1): yes of course this is the right thing to do. Check how many bindus a planet gets in its own AV chart. If this is high, then the planets influence in the chart is good and it is strong to signify its primary Karakatwa. Take a case of Jupiter in Pisces in Lagna. If the bindus oin Jupiter AV are seven or high, then the effect of jupiter in Pisces will be fully felt i.e. intelligent and what not all good things I have read, but if this is low, then the effect will also be low and the weaknesses will show in the chart. Thus, in charts having Rajyoga or Mahapurusha Yoga, check the number of bundu's in the AV of the planet itself. Check also the same for the luminaries. Question 2) There are too many meanings for this. It can be a simple thing as poor sleep to what you indicate depending on the bindus given by planets in the 12th house. which planets contribute bindu's..these planets will influence positively. Guest guest
Hello Denis, Try Richard Houck's Digital Astrology again. It is truly inciteful and clear in its exposition. (I was lost the Indians' books.) Digital Astrology does include some history. I find that us of the birth chart planetary bindus just as valid as the transit bindus. But don't let Ashtakavarga "meanings" overwelm your judgement of other factors. Mercury is clearly very strong, but there is nothing wrong with a 3 bindu Sun. In fact, you may prefer a moderate Sun for spiritual growth and less problems with ego. Also, the Ashtakavarga strength of the house where the planets are placed is perhaps even more influentual than the bindu strength. Any house with less than 20 points is truly weak and thereby brings suffering regarding its significations. Your 12th at 16 is not just nonfunctional but particularly harmful in its own significations, its ruler, to planets placed in the 12th. However, you have other houses strong from the 12th having so few - and you should use the power to offset 12th house losses. Have you ever been robbed or confined in an institution? doug riemer vedic astrology, "DENIS LABOURE" <Laboure@W...> wrote: > > Hello, > > I am currently studying the ashtakavarga. Guest guest
Dear all, What if a planet has many bindus in ashtakavarga but is weak in shadbala? Which strength is used for which purpose? Which one is more important? I hope that any of you learned pandits will shed some light on this puzzling issue. Thanks in advance and warm regards Arno Doug Riemer schrieb: > Hello Denis, > > Try Richard Houck's Digital Astrology again. It is truly inciteful > and clear in its exposition. Guest guest
Dear Arno and others, Please read sections 15.2 and 15.3 in my book "Vedic Astrology: An Integrated Approach". Section 15.2 is actually extracted on my homepage (http://www.VedicAstrologer.org - click on my book and on extracts and choose the extract "why different strengths"). But your question is more directly answered in section 15.3. May Jupiter's light shine on us, Narasimha > Dear all, > > What if a planet has many bindus in ashtakavarga but is weak in shadbala? > Which strength is used for which purpose? Guest guest
Dear Narasimha, Many thanks for the tip. Fortunately I have your book. Chapter 15 answers my question very nicely and the differences between ashtakavarga, shadbala and other strengths are much clearer to me now. By the way I like your book very much. Giving exercises was an excellent idea. I also appreciate your uncompromising honesty ("astrology may have been a science a few thousand years back, but it is no longer a science") and your maxim that spirituality, respect for sages and scientific temper must co-exist (statistical research is important for a future renaissance of vedic astrolgoy). Warm regards Arno pvr schrieb: > Dear Arno and others, > > Please read sections 15.2 and 15.3 in my book "Vedic Astrology: An > Integrated Approach".
