Western astrology is based on the SAYANA

(TROPICAL)system. Hindoo astrology is based on the

NIRAYAN (SIDERIAL)system. In the Nirayan the

referencee is a fixed position of the Star Revati. The

diffrence between this fixed position, and the present

postion of the Axis of the earth, is known as the

Ayanamsa. This is about 23 deg 46 min now. The Nirayan

longitudes are calculted after deducting this aynanmsa

for the Longitudes of the Sayana System. The Nirayan

system is better, because the predictions over the

ages are based on the relative postion to a fixed

point of reference, where as in the Sayana, the

postions vary with the years. The Nirayan system of

coordinates is not helpful direct observational

confirmation. For example, the Sun is shown in the

Capricorn on 22/23 Dec. every year.

In the Nirayan system the same entry of Sun in

Capricorn is now a days 14/15 th Jan.

As far as predictions are concerned, the views of each

astrologer are different, based on his/her experience
