For example I would like to be able to answer the questions: Which planet rules Year 2001? Which planet rules Month June 2001? Which planet rules Day 22 June 2001? Raman's Muhurtha and Graha and Bhava Balas. In fact, any good Jyotish Software including JHL would list these rulers within the section of Shadbalas. The planet ruling the year gets full Abda Bala, the ruler of month gets Maasa Bala, the ruler of day gets Vaara Bala and the ruler of hour gets Hora Bala. Please look up the above references. Especially lord of the birth Hora is very important, You could go on further to find out the lord of birth Ghati and Vighati as well, which are alos interesting.
