Guest guest
Namaste. I found an identical chart to Bill Clinton's, which is shown on page 313 of COVA, in regards to scandals. I thought it might interest some people. It is Robert Downey Jr's chart. He has been facing scandal for many years now and has been in and out of jail and rehabilitation for drug possession, use and addiction. He recently was released, but then caught again and is facing more charges and scandal. He also has Cancer rising, with AL in Libra. Like Clinton, Rahu, causing the scandals, is in the 8th from AL, aspecting both ascendant and AL. Note Gulika and Mandi in the second house, giving consumption of drugs. Rahu conjoins Gulika in navamsa 9th house, which shows the poisoning. The dasa running since 89 has been Rahu, who forms the scandal yoga, as well as guru-chandala. regards, Alex J Robert Downey Jr. Date of Birth: April 4, 1965 Time of Birth: 1:01:00 pm Time Zone of Birth: 5:00 West of GMT Longitude of Birth: 74 W 00 Latitude of Birth: 40 N 43 +----------------------+ | Ven | | | | | | | Jup | | | Sun | Moo | | | | | | Rah | | | MerR | | | | |-------------|---------------------------|-------------| | | | | | | | BL | | Sat | | | | | | Asc | | | | | |-------------| R A S I |-------------| | | | Glk | | | | | | | | MarR | | | | | | | | Mnd | |-------------|---------------------------|-------------| | | | | | | | HL | | | | | | GL | | | | Ket | | | | | | | | +----------------------+ +----------------------+ | | | | | | Sat | | | | | | | | | | MerR | | | | | | | | | |-------------|---------------------------|-------------| | | | | | | | | | Ket | | HL | | | | | | | | | |-------------| N A V A M S A |-------------| | | | | | Jup | | Rah | | | | | | Sun | | Glk | | | | | |-------------|---------------------------|-------------| | | Moo | | | | Asc | | | | | | Mnd | BL | MarR | | Ven | | | | | | GL | | | +----------------------+ _______________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Guest guest
>>I hate to ask an obvious newbie question, but what is AL? Dear Julie, Welcome to the list. Please don't hesitate to ask beginner's questions. If someone has the time they will answer. If not, please make use of the extensive archives but clicking the link in the footer of every post. Almost every topic and answer can be found there. When you get Narasimha's book you will see Arudha Lagna (AL) explained clearly. Actually, Narasimha generously provided some extracts of his book on his website. And you are in luck, he has included the chapter on Arudhas. You can find it at the link below: http://www.geocities.com/pvr108/bookex1.htm If after reading the chapter you still have question, I'll be happy to try to help you. I remember being in your shoes several years ago. Best Wishes, Karen
Guest guest
Dear Julie and Karen, Actually, the book extract at the given link talks only about the arudhas of houses other than lagna. Unfortunately, answer to Julie's question is in the 2 paragraphs before the extract and they're not included in the extract. Julie, here is a quick answer: Each house has something called "arudha" or "arudha pada" or "pada" associated with it. Its computation is easy, but I'll skip it for simplicity. You can refer toi my book for computation and examples. Arudha of the first house (i.e. lagna or ascendant) is known as "arudha lagna". It is usually denoted by AL. While lagna stands for "the true self" (i.e. who a person truly is), AL stands for "the perceived self". AL shows how a person is perceived by the world. For example, an intelligent person may be perceived by the world as a fool and vice versa. Lagna shows the "reality" (which is wrapped under the layers of illusion that make up this material world) and AL shows the illusions of this material world. If you are more interested, you can read some books and come back to the list and peruse the archives. There were a lot of useful discussions in the past. You know, I read that last night... but didn't know that AL meant Arudha Lagna. But I downloaded Narasimha's software, and - lo and behold - there is my AL in 10 (Aries) with Ketu. And I see all the other Arudhas for the rest of the houses, at least I assume that's what the little brown A10s and A2s are... Not only that, but in the help menu there is a nice page on it. Nice piece of work, that program. I'm liking it more and more... Heh. But seeing the Arudhas doesn't mean much to me... yet! But I've ordered his book (and K. S. Charak's as well), so my summer reading list is swelling to the breaking point. >If after reading the chapter you still have question, I'll be happy to try >to help you. I remember being in your shoes several years ago. Thanks for the offer. I'm sure I'll take you up on it, eventually. Right now I'm slogging my way through Frawley's "Astrology of the Seers", and it's frustrating. Lots of information with very little concrete application with charts, at least not yet. He did wake me up with this quote, though: "The essence of Astrology lies in understanding the meaning of the planets. The meanings of the signs, houses, aspects and other astrological factors are determined by the planets that rule and significate them. Astrology is nothing but the science of the planets, as the forces of the stars manifest through them." (p. 47) Comments? He also made the point that if one planet is the final depositor of the whole chart, the person is much like that planet. In my case the final depositor is the Sun - in Leo, in 2, combusting both Mars and Mercury. In Western Astrology one says that the conjunction of those 3 means that the planetary energies are blended - that my Merc (Rx) and Mars functions are indistinguishable from my Self - from my point of view. From my reading in Jyotish, it seems that the Sun will/has burned up my Mars and Merc (not a good thing for a Cancer lagna's career). I'm curious if I've got this right. I would post my chart here, but I'm not sure where to go to get an ascii Vedic chart. :\ Anyway, thanks for the heads up on the website... I'm also enjoying your Jyotish program, though I have lists of questions... wondering what different things are, and mean. That will wait, I have a feeling that I'll figure most of it out on my own. > >Arudha of the first house (i.e. lagna or ascendant) is known >as "arudha lagna".
