Occult knowledge, black magic and Mars

Mastery of Mantras and the occult is also seen from other places than the

trines. Mars is a planet that gives occult proficiency. Parasar shows this in

his Ruchak Mahapurusa yoga. The concept here is strong kendra placement of

Mars, natural lord of the 8th house of the occult, and also the 1st agni trine.

Likewise Ketu, the other lord of the 8th can give Siddhi when related to the

ascendant.

BPHS 75 3-7. The Ruchaka native ... is well versed in occult sciences.

Jataka Parijata 7 60. ...Ruchaka yoga will... be versed in the sacred hymns, the

method of praying with them and the art of producing magic spells.

Saravali 37 5 5-7. ...Ruchaka Yoga will have ... knowledge of Mantras... will

honor gods and Brahmins... be skilled in Mantras and black magic...

This is clearly a property of Mars, as the other Mahapurusa yogas do not mention

occult abilities or magic as their results. Further there are several yogas that

show cause of misfortune due to black magic as a result of a malefic Mars.

Phala Deepika 14 14 The troubles cause by Mars for bringing about death are

accidental fire, magical spells, witch craft and weapons.

Jataka Parijata 6 93. When the rising sign is aspected by Mars, and the lord of

the 6th bhava occupies the 10th, the 7th, or the 1st bhava, the person born

will suffer from the effects of magic employed against him by his enemies.

JP 6 93 When Mars in conjunction with the lord of the Ascendant occupies the

Ascendant or any other Kendra and the lord of the 6th is in the Ascendant, the

person born will suffer from the effects of magic employed against him by his

enemies.

Most of these readings are negative, due to Mars' Tamasic and violent nature,

and ownership of the 8th. However beneficially disposed, with a positive

Ruchaka yoga, or in the company of Jupiter, the person does not necessarily

turn these abilities to harm, but rather becomes proficient in the use of

Mantras.

Mars is also auspicious as the natural 1st house agni trine, and in combination

with the natural 9th lord Jupiter, makes him powerful to gain mantra

accomplishment, and makes him a Brahmin. Note that Mars and Jupiter rule the

8th/12th moksha signs.

A good chart to illustrate this principle of Mars is Sir John Woodroffe's

(Arthur Avalon). Without a doubt he was very learned in the occult sciences,

and was even taught several of the secret Tantras. He was learned in mantra

sastra, tantra and the rituals involved. He has Mars in Scorpio, Capricorn

navamsa. Note Jupiter in Saggittarius, Saturn in Libra, and Ketu in Pisces

aspected by Jupiter. Venus is vargottama, and Sun and Mercury exalted Navamsa.

This chart is very powerful.

There is a Kalamrita yoga, and the planets are all clustered in Scorpio and

Saggitarius, which are the natural 8/9 houses, which are the primary houses of

occult. There is also a graha malika yoga from Virgo to Saggittarius showing

the depth of learning.

Mars is the Atmakaraka in exalted Karakamsa lagna, aspected by Jupiter, giving

mastery over the occult mantric aspect of Tantra. Note the Jupiter/Rahu

conjunction in the 8th from Karakamsa indicating black magic used against him.

JS 3 57. When Jupiter and Rahu are together in the second or eighth from

Karakamsa, death is from evil spells, black magic, witchcraft, and the like.

Unfortunately there is no time for his birth available, so I have taken 12:00

noon for the planetary positions, but still much can be seen from this. His

Mars is most powerful for Mantras and occult knowledge, which can be seen in

his writings and the events of his life.
