Dear Mr Narasimha:

you addressed 3 matters essentially:

a) basic conditional probability (ie versus what an average control set wd

show),

b) composition of sample (being random/ similar to composition of full

population, etc), but

c) u touched upon the third without explaining the basic concept better

which may have led to the lack of understanding on why a larger sample set

wd not help (apart from the abv 2), ie what Sigmas are we considering

(Confidence level & other similar tests like Chi sq, etc).

 

Forget this particular subject-matter (since the List Lagna is obviously

being afflicted by bad transits at this point on this topic; the

temperature is rising, and the List chart should not afflict all of us).

But u may wish to define these 3 matters statistically & conceptually in

your inimitable style, or someone else in this List who still remembers

stats may wish to do so. This wd benefit other astro-stat researchers in

other matters who may be on this List.

Stats 101!

On basic research fundas, before researching on ANY subject.

 

Also:

 

1. I think every one shd read your VAIP book if only for the last section

of a few chapters, which unfortunately are so imp and not covered in most

texts, which incl chapters on Rectification & Rational Thinking. Brilliant.

No no, I have not reached there yet, just read those sections before

reading dasas, transits & progressions. So I shall be back to bug you with

a consolidated list of questions & errata after I finish the whole book.

Which shd take time, as I have just become a father again last week.

 

2. Do find some time to respond to my queries ref a) beneficience of

argalas by participating planets vs Mr Gaurango's posting, b) obstruction

by virodh argalas & other matters. I am again on leave (nappy changing

duties), & hope to recv yr reply on these sent in an earlier mail when I

return to work next week.

 

3. I REALLY feel that EVERY difference of opinion between astrologers need

NOT ALWAYS degenerate into.... Not only deflects the issue, but I wonder

how ALL astrologers actually talk to clients. As I said once, for even the

skeptickest client, each word spoken by an astrologer goes buzzzz around

the client's mind for weeks & months, & the supposed "prognosis" affects

their "present". We all really MUST make an attempt to start HERE, NOW, in

THIS List, to .... I do not know what else to say, & to whom, without in

turn offending someone or the other. I too have made so many mistakes.

Dad (D) tells son (S) to put in a nail in the fence whenever S loses his

temper. After a month, the no of nails per day decrease. 2nd month: D tells

S to remove a nail whenever he has been irritated & NOT lost his temper,

plus continuing 1st exercise. 5 months later, there is a fence exhibition

of friends & family. There is not a single nail. But there still are many

many holes!
