Guest guest
Namaste Gary, >If Venus is responsible for addiction to materialism, then why >should an aspect of Venus onto Ketu cause initiation into spiritual >orders? Venus is the greatest benefic for worldy matters, as is shown by the wealth of Lakshmi and the lifegiving energy of the mrityunjaya mantra. There is no doubt about this. Parasara places Venus as the most benefic planet, more so than Jupiter. I think the problem with viewing Venus as a benefic/malefic is in perspective. Worldy matters/materialism are not malefic in my view. Success in wealth, human relations, lifespan are directly a result of either good deeds, or penance in previous lives. A strong Venus guarantees these things. But enjoyment of worldly pleasures does hinder moksha. Venus' conjunction with Ketu gives initiation as Ketu's effect on Venus is to remove the materialist tendencies, making him into a spiritual devotee. Venus in the 8th also removes materialism and causes a Saint. A similarity here is that Ketu is the natural 8th lord. Also Venus is a Brahmanical planet causing learning in relation to Ketu's matters, ie spiritual and moksha. Venus will also give a great enjoyment for the pursuit of moksha. Your point about Venus' relation with Ketu is valid, but keep in mind a similar yoga conjoining the spiritual Jupiter with Rahu, which can lead the person into depravity and anti-religious sentiment. Does this make Jupiter unspiritual? You can compare the charts of people with Venus in Taurus or Libra ascendant. They are charming people, but they definitely put more weight on attaining material benefits, such as wealth and a happy family life, than spiritual concerns. They are quite a bit different then a Saggitarrius or Pisces ascendant with Juptier therein. For example one woman I know with Venus in Taurus lagna is an agent for fashion models. She has a keen appreciation for beauty and artisitic things. She loves the cinema, and her husband is a movie director. She is an enjoyer of life, freely drinking, eating and enjoying sex. Another is a man who is a business man from a wealthy family, who has slept with over 100 women. He is currently in Venus dasa. He believes that wealth and the family are the only important things in life, apart from enjoying life to its fullest with sensory pleasures. He is an avid fan of overeating, television, music and cartoons. Best Wishes, Alex J
Guest guest
Namaste Gary, You are completely correct and have given soud advice. Of course the most important thing is to do a blending of all features of the chart. Even the examples I gave are a few isolated charts. There is no doubt in my mind that all that you have said is true. I also know very devout people with guru-chandala. Still at the same time, the classic definitions must be undersood at their basis and thereafter appropriately modified. The complex interpretations are formed from the blending of the basic combinations and definitions. So it is a necessity to know the results of factors in isolation first, such as the results of a pure Venus-Ketu conjunction in the trines, or second from swamsa, etc. There are also modifications to yogas, such as Jupiter-Rahu conjunction in the texts that create the effect of making someone proficient in every spiritual science, such as Jupiter-Rahu conjunction with Saturn receving the aspect of Mercury and Venus. This shows as you have pointed out the necessity of making the appropriate modifications for yogas depending on other factors. As regards Venus, people can also attain a great religious level because Venus is a Brahmin, and all of the benefics make the person spiritual and knowledgeable. Parasara gives a yoga where the 9th/10th lord Venus in the 1st/4th makes the person very religious during his dasa. For great spiritual understanding, and knowledge it is best for Venus, Jupiter and Mercury to be strongly placed, and then you will get a Saraswati yoga, who is the goddess of Vidyas. My point with Venus was to say that the material world, is the personification of God, and as such is a spiritual reality unto itself. Venus has knowledge of this aspect of God, and is therefore by no means malefic. Tantrics view the world as the personfication of Devi, the mother Goddess. They view it as much of a reality as the reality of the divine unity of Moksha. Venus spiritualized indicates a Tantric for this reason. Guest guest
Alex, Namaste and Vanakkam and with all due respect, My only point here is that we have to be careful with these blanket generalizations about the natures of the planets. I have done many charts for devotees of Ammachi and they are either in Rahu mahadasas or have Jupiter/Rahu conjunctions; likewise, I have met many Bhaktas (Iskcon) devotees who have very strong Venuses (without Ketu involvement). I am not prepared to call the Ammachi folks deranged or anti-religious or the devotees materialists, if you know what I mean. Let us analyze the whole chart; that way we can see the interaction of the Grahas, and "blend the stew"; otherwise we are really giving people, I think, incomplete direction, and I have seen these patterns develop somewhat unjustified prejudices about planetary natures. Guest guest
AUM SRI GURUVE NAMAH Dear Members! Here is my little contribution. We must acknolwedge the fact that Venus and Jupiter are both Gurus. Venus is the Guru of Asuras and Jupiter is the Guru of Devatas. Being Gurus they are benefics and guide the individual under their influence. However, here the question is guidance towards what? This can be known by the Gunas of these planets. Jupiter is Satwik and Venus is Rajasik. Hence Jupiter shows a satwik way to lead this life, i.e., simple living, devoid of any materialistic pleasures. If the person is in sadhana, Jupiter will guide the individual to attain the Brahman, the ultimate reality and the absolute. As satwik nature indicate, the individual influenced by Jupiter will not have any desires to attain material benefits, even though he attains enough psychic and spiritual powers in the process, they will only a byproduct of their sadhana and they won't be attached to those powers or crave for them. Whereas Venus, though a Guru, he is with the Asuras, the enjoyers of materialistic pleasures. Hence the direction given by Venus in Sadhana will be that which aims towards attainment of Siddhis (the psychic and spiritual power). The person under her influence will be spiritual and be a sadhaka, however, his sadhana will aim towards attainment of siddhis. As rajashik nature shows a lot of energy or power (shakti), these people will be after shakti and which is attained through tantricism. But this is not the complete picture. If a person is a tantric, we might not say with certainity that the person has more influence of Venus than Jupiter, with certainity. If Ramakrishna Paramahamsa has worshipped shakti, or otherwis, he practised tantricism, he was not guided by the desire of attaining siddhis. Here, we might see that he is influenced by Jupiter to attain supreme Brahman, however, his 12th from Karakamsa is influenced by Rahu. It might also be noted that malefics in the trine from Karakamsa produces tantric. However, the influence of Venus or Jupiter would decide whether the practice of tantricism is for attainment of Siddhis or it is only a means to obtain the the goal of Supreme Brahman or Moksha. With my faithful regards to all Sarajit - Alex J <lostinmotion <vedic astrology> Sunday, June 17, 2001 11:32 PM [vedic astrology] Re: psychic powers - Venus and materialism > Namaste Gary, > > You are completely correct and have given soud advice.
