Dear VIjay,

iShta and Kastha are useful for determining HOW MUCH good or ill a planet will

give, but they do not indicate whetehre the planet will give good or ill. They

are a quantifying technique. The proper use of them is to first determine by

planetary placement, yoga, etc, a planet is indicating good or ill, then after

doing so if the planet is indicating a raja yoga, a good, then check the Ishta

to see how much good the planet is going to give, if however the planet is only

causing Arishta yogas then you need not bother checking the IShta, just the

Kashta to see how bad teh arishta will be.

 

It is a complex process to calculate the Ishta and Kashta correctly. FIrst you

have to calculate the Ishta and Kastha, then you multiply that by the Subha and

AsubhaPanktis which are dependent upon the Saptvargas, then you multyply that by

the ShadBala. This gives a reliable factor to determine how much good or ill a

planet will give, but remember that the important point is that you first have

to determine by Yoga, etc, if the planet will give good or ill.

 

I have been using this technique reliable for the last 2 years. An example is AL

GOre's horoscope, Mercury no doubt was causing some decent yogas and half the

astrologers thought he would win, but Mercury's final factyor for the amount of

GOod it cjld give based on the above formula was only 6.7, compared to Bush's 36

that his Bukti lord was giving, his bukti lord was also causing some good yogas,

in fact, both GOre's Mercury, and Bush's Mars were causing two decent raj yogas.

 

If you are further interested the Ishta and Kashta, and Subha/AsubhaPanktis are

calculated in line on the above forumula with the software my wife is making,
