Guest guest
Traditionally, marriage compatibility in the vedic context consists of calculating the number of matching gunas (points) between the charts. The total # of gunas is out of 36. More than 18 gunas without any major doshas is considered acceptable. What does a good matching of charts (lets say 29 points matching) specifically indicate? The calculations are done primarily based on the moon rashi and nakshatra. Why this significance to the moon above all planets like atmakaraka, darakaraka etc? What is the influence of a dosha (for example, the same Nadi Dosha)? Thanking you in advance. Varma.
Guest guest
JAYA JAGANNATHA! Dear Varma, Namaste. > > Traditionally, marriage compatibility in the vedic context consists > of calculating the number of matching gunas (points) between the > charts. As you may have noticed, the 12 Kootas are based on the Moon's position in the two charts. The Moon indicates the mind. So the 12 Kootas will indicate mental/emotional compatibility. But what is there which is higher than the Moon? It is the Ahamkara, or false ego, indicated by the Arudhas, specifically Arudha of 12th house (Upapada). This is why the Upapada matching will indicate karmic cmopatibility, which is at least as important as mental. You may feel good in each other's company, but how long will it last and how will it end? This is answered by comparing the Upapadas in the two charts. I have given the guidelines in my article which you will find on my website. > The calculations are done primarily based on the moon rashi and > nakshatra. Why this significance to the moon above all planets like > atmakaraka, darakaraka etc? Actually, in a complete comaptibility reading, you should consider the following things: 1. Upapada matching 2. Chara Karakas (Especially Atma- and Darakaraka) 3. Navamshas 4. 12 Kootas 5. General influence of planets in the two charts if overlapping them. > What is the influence of a dosha (for example, the same Nadi Dosha)? Each Dosha (i.e. one of the 12 Kootas bein nil) would indicate difficulty in a certain area. Nadi means pulse. Nadi Koota will indicate that the couple's etheric vibrations compliment eahc other or not. IUn this regard Nakshatras are grouped under Vaata, Pitta or Sleshma (Kapha) Nadi. If the two Nakshatras are different, then they are compatible, if the same, then not compatible. Their vibrations won't harmonize. If you are interested in the 12 Kootas, yo may have a look at Muhurtha Cintamani and Uttara Kalamrit. If my memory serves me well, Sarwartha Cintamani also elaborates on them. Of the modern writers, Raman gives a good summary in his Muhurtha book.
