Guest guest
Namaste, I like to enter into conversation with the question of Dasha systems and Ayanamsha. The word "Dasha" means "stage or condition of life" or "border". The root probably comes from the meaning "to bite", where certain Karma are ready to be enjoyed for better or worse. Few of the many types of Dasha systems are Kalachakra Dasha, Yogini Dasha, Ashtottari Dasha and Nakshatra Dasha, which is better known as Vimshottari Dasha system. Classical works such as Saravali advocates the Moola Dasha system, and Parashara emphasize two types of Dashas; Kalachakra Dasha and Vimshottari Dasha (from the thirty-two different systems included in his BPHS). Vimshottari Dasha system is also known as the Nakshatra Dasha or Udu Dasha. The reasons why Vimshottari Dasha system has come so popular, is its simple and relatively precise formula, but a more likely its position in BPHS. Many western known Jyotish software and practioners even introduce the Vimshottari Dasha system as "The Dasha System" of Jyotish, althought it is the most widely used, but the only one system of Dashas in Vedic Astrology. The reason why is it so widely used, is simple. People just want to follow some tradition and doing so they trust and want to see the purity in their own art only. Vimshottari was derived from the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, but everyone should also give importance to other classical works, which in fact at least sanction its use. Everyone who aspire to learn Jyotish fully must learn some of other systems as well. Jyotish takes its inspiration from the SKY, from planets and those movements in space, but Vimshottari Dasha system doesn´t derive from ANY celestial cycle or event. This system allots varied periods to each of the nine planets in a fixed sequenses. The entire cycle last 120 years (="Vimshottari"). No one knows from where each Dasha´s number of years comes, nor why those Dashas were arranged in their specific order. This system is also known as Nakshatra Dasha, because the years are similar to 120 degrees of space, one-third of the zodiac. Order of Dashas are fixed and we just simply accept them. The point where the sequence will begin usually depends on the Nakshatra position of the Moon at the moment of birth. The planet who rules that Nakshatra is the first ruler of the native´s life and so the cycles of life has begun. During the planet´s Dasha, everything will be highlighted, whatever planet indicates according to birthchart analysis. During the specific Dashas transiting planets (Gochara) can activate those results promised in the chart, but they cannot change the nature of those results. Vimshottari Dasha system is fixed, but it also depends on actual TIME; the birth moment order the specific Nakshatra and planet ruler and the transits needs as precise model of time as possible. So, the Dasha system is connected to question of Ayanamsha as well. Different models of time gives different results, and so happens when using Dasha year 360 instead of 365.25. Lahiri (or Chitra) is the most widely used Ayanamsha, then comes B.V.Raman and Krishnamurti. Other Ayanamshas are for example Sri Yukteswar, J.N.Bhasin, Fagan-Bradley, DeLuce, Usha-Shashi, Sundra Rajan, Larry Fly, Shill Pond, Richard Houck, Tropical/Western or our own choice. There are any strict rule for use of any of them, we just rely on our own experience or more likely we just accept the experiences of authoritatives without questions. There are not yet the true or standard Ayanamsha, which gives reliable predictions. Mark Ps. Please help to rectify my birthtime! The only thing I know about this is : - in Vimshottari Dasa, planets follow this order: Ketu (7), Venus (20), Sun (6), Moon (10), Mars (7), Rahu (18), Jupiter (16), Saturn (19), and Mercury (17 years). - If you take off Sun, Moon, Rahu & Ketu, you have planets that follow their geocentric order : Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. (Mercury must be after Saturn but, it's a cercle, thus Mercury can come before (Ketu) and Venus.) - If you divide this cycle in two halfs -> you have 2 periods of 60 years each : - Merc (17) + Ket (7) + venus (20) + Sun (6) + Moon (10) = 60 years. - Mars (7) + Rahu (18) + Jup (16) + Sat (19) = 60 years. On one hand, you have a list of "inferior" planets : Sun, Moon, Merc, Ven, and Ketu. For the second half, you have a list of "superior" planets : Mars, Jup, Sat and Rahu. > Vimshottari Dasha system is fixed, but it also depends on actual TIME; > the birth moment order the specific Nakshatra and planet ruler and the > transits needs as precise model of time as possible. For me, after many years of practice and experimentations, I use Vimshottari Dasa with years of 360 days, with Lahiri ayanamsa. I find, with it, correct predictions with a precision of less than one day. Using Vimshottari Dasa with years of 365,25d, events will often occure before their dashas. But, when I use dashas with year 360, events always happen during their own dashas. > Lahiri (or Chitra) is the most widely used > Ayanamsha, then comes B.V.Raman and Krishnamurti.
