Guest guest
Namaste Narasimha and other Jyotishis, I know that the subject of Moola dasa had been discussed at various points before, but since I've been away from the list for the most part, I haven't been able to implement some of the subtleties of this dasa. Now, a student had asked some questions re: the calculations of the Moon's Moola dasa, which, not being too sure of myself, sought to ask the learned Jyotishis on this list. Questions: 1. In Moola dasa (after determining the stronger kendras as seen from lagna, Sun, or Moon), we count from each planet to its Moolatrikona rasi (in zodiacal sequence), subtract one from the number of Rasis intervening, and then subtract that figure from the total number of years in that planet's Vimsottari dasa to get the total years in its Moola dasa. Now, in the case of the Moon, we are shown from the example chart of Bhagavan Sri Rama (vide Sanjay's article on Moola dasa posted at SJVC.org), that the *more important* rasi for the Moon in that chart, was Cancer, rather than the usual Moolatrikona sign of Taurus for the Moon. Evidently Cancer was more important, as it ruled the lagna, and the Moon + Jupiter occupied it in exaltation. The Taurus rasi was not as important, as no planet occupied it. So this leads to the second part of my question: 2. Does this mean, that for the Moon Moola dasa in particular, either of Cancer or Taurus can be the Moolatrikona rasi, depending on which one is more important or stronger in the chart? Or, should Taurus (being the classical Moolatrikona sign for the Moon) be considered first, or being given particular importance, outside an emphasis on the sign Cancer? Any thoughts and insights would be appreciated! Best wishes, Robert ===================================== Robert A. Koch, Vedic Astrologer 760 NW Broken Arrow Rd. Guest guest
Pranaams Robert, Moon's moolatrikona is Taurus only. No author until V.K. Choudhry took Cancer as Moon's moolatrikona. Maharshis and ancient authors all gave Taurus as Moon's moolatrikona. You may have misunderstood Sanjay's calculation. Go back to http://www.sjvc.org/Articles/mooladasa.htm and read it carefully. Sanjay took Taurus as moolatrikona. Count to moolatrikona (from Cn to Ta) is 11. Minus 1 is 10. Subtracting this moolatrikona correction (10) from Moon dasa years (10), we get 0. When you get 0, take the full amount (Sanjay mentioned this rule). So it becomes 10 years. May Jupiter's light shine on us, Narasimha > 1. Guest guest
Pranaams Narasimha, At 03:04 AM 6/6/01 +0000, you wrote: >Pranaams Robert, > >Moon's moolatrikona is Taurus only. No author until V.K. I have another question, then, and thank you for answering. This has to do with the Moola dasa of former president Bill Clinton (using Virgo as the ascendant, as per 8:51 AM TOB). Now, according to JHora Alpha, you have given the dasa of the Moon to follow that of Jupiter. Neither planet has other planets with them, and so according to the list of rules Sanjay quotes from BPHS (Chapter 46, Shloka 161), if planets are equal in strength, and without other planets conjoining, and if they are in signs of equal strength (i.e. both are in chara Rasis), then the one with higher degree becomes the stronger in the final analysis. Now, in Clinton's chart, Jupiter at 0 degrees should come after the dasa of the Moon, who is at 27 degrees. Why then is JHora programmed to give Jupiter's dasa first, and then that of the Moon?
